Riley and I went for a 2.25 mile run today, our longest without-walk-breaks run ever. It took us 28 minutes (yes, I'm slow, but I didn't stop my watch when I stopped to let him cool off in the lake, so I think our average pace was a bit faster than the 12:32 recorded). As much as I hate cold weather in general, I have to say, running in 40-something temps is quite nice. I'm still figuring out what to wear in the cold - today (46 degrees) and Friday (49) I wore pants and a lightweight long-sleeved top. Friday I think I should have gone with pants and short sleeves or shorts and long sleeves, but not pants and long sleeves; today I was a bit warm during the run but almost chilly by the end of the (half-mile) cool-down walk, so I think long and long was a good call (it was damp today, dry on Friday). I just bought new running pants on Friday (after several weeks of searching!) and I LOVE them. Bettysport is my new favorite store.
During our cool-down walk we saw Edward and Luna, who were mid-way through their 7+ mile run. We stopped and talked briefly, and then Riley barked and whined when we went opposite directions. Edward later told me that Luna whined for the entire time they were going in the direction away from us, then pulled like crazy once they turned back toward where they'd seen us, and she tried to leave the trail at the point where we'd been (when we saw them Riley and I were walking through the park, not actually on the trail). They're such a little pack!
Next week's "long" run will be 2.5 miles, and the week after that is my first 5K. I'd hoped to have already run three miles before then, but somehow it didn't work out that way. :( I've felt good during my last few runs, though ... I think it'll be fine.
