Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: what a week, a long week, the longest week. And today perhaps the worst of all (work, so much work, I still haven't packed, I never realize how much work I actually do until I've got to make sure it gets done for an entire week I won't be around). But! Tonight is the Mountain Goats. And tomorrow, oh glorious Saturday, I hop on a plane and head to the land of Florida for five days of baseball and sun and baseball.*

The name of the game last weekend was soup. Which I made.

Ezo Gelin Çorbasi

1 large onion, finely diced
4-7 cloves garlic, minced
1 large tomato, skinned and de-seeded and chopped (you could also substitute canned here, I'd think)
2 T. tomato paste
2 T. + 1 pinch paprika
1/2 t. red pepper
1 1/2 cups red lentils
1/2 cups bulgur or rice (or 1/4 c. each)
6 cups vegetable stock (or chicken stock or water or whatever combination thereof you've got lying around in your fridge and want to use up because you're leaving for vacation in a week)
2 T. + 1 pinch dried mint
black pepper & salt
olive oil
lemon wedge

1. Heat 4 T. olive oil in crockpot or big pot. Add onions and garlic. Stir around.
2. Add tomato paste and tomato. Stir some more.
3. Add 2 T. paprika and red pepper. Stir yet again.
4. Add red lentils and bulgur/rice/combo. (Yes, you guessed it, stir.)
5. Add stock. For everything, stir stir stir.
6. Add salt & pepper to taste. Add 2 T. mint. Stir.
7. Bring to a boil, cover, cook on high for about an hour. Or two. Until the lentils are all soft.
8. Blend it all up. I put it in batches in my regular blender, but an immersion blender would work oh so much better.
9. Heat about 1 T. of olive oil with pinches of mint and paprika. Pour on top of soup. Serve with a lemon wedge (if you have a lemon; I didn't, and it's perfectly tasty and delicious without). Eat.

Hm. What else? I wrote a short Bob/Gerard thing for bandom365 the other day ( Life is a Neck) (that community is awesomesauce when it comes to forcing me to write something, anything, in large part because it can be a drabble or a ficlet or whatever I want). I'm also about 250 words into my sportsbackinsn story (though I know exactly what's going to happen, so).

Basically, what I'm saying here is this: I'm leaving (on a jet plane) tomorrow and I'll be back next Friday and tell me if you write anything awesome in the meantime (or, you know, if details of the crazy/awesome things those dorks in bands do while I'm not paying attention). Love, me.

*But not, alas, Doug Mirabelli: Stud Who Hits Bombs (or, you know, GIDP), as he was released yesterday.
