[& I took the red line all the way]

That shipping meme, which I somehow managed to get from someone, somewhere, who is not daygloparker (though I last saw it with her).

Six Ships I Love
1. Mick/Keith (Rolling Stones)
2. Eric/Tami (FNL)
3. Buffy/Faith (BtVS)
4. Geoffrey/Ellen (Slings & Arrows)
5. CJ/Toby (TWW)
6. Natalie/Jeremy (Sports Night)

Three Ships I Liked, But Don't Anymore
7. Jim/Pam (The Office)
8. John/Rodney (SGA)
9. Dana/Casey (Sports Night)

Three Ships I Don't Like
10. Josh/Donna (TWW)
11. Frank/Tim (Homicide)
12. Buffy/Angel (BtVS)

Two Ships I Am Curious About, But Don't Actually Ship (The Yet is totally implied, right?)
13. Lyla/Tyra (FNL)
14. Pete/Patrick (Fall Out Boy, & please to be shutting up now, tangleofthorns, I was totally going to say Ryan/Simon, but I just couldn't. You, um, kind of already sold me on that one.)

1. Why do you dislike #11 so much? (Frank/Tim)
First of all, Frank is not attracted to Tim; he is very straight, very married to Mary Pembleton, very not interested in Tim like that. Tim might be attracted to Tim, in fact he probably is, but to reduce his relationship with Frank to sexual frustration makes it far less interesting and far less true. I've tried to read fic, to give this pairing a chance, but I honestly just can't do it.

2. Who is someone you know that ships #13? (Lyla/Tyra)
tangleofthorns and pene, whose You Won't Catch Me 'Round Here is what initially piqued my interest in the pairing.

3. What would be your ideal scenario for couple #3 (Buffy/Faith)
Post-series, rough and gritty with roadtrips and the end of the world, acts of surprising gentleness and acts of surprising cruelty all mixed together and never, ever, is this a fairytale.

4. Which is your favorite episode for #1? Try to pick just one. (Mick/Keith)
Anything from season 2, The Seventies. Photographed by Annie Leibovitz (1975) is a particular favorite (the basic plot: Mick and Keith are shagging, Annie knocks on the door, Mick and Keith struggle to pull on their trousers-- with varying degrees of success, Keith-- and look nonchalant, Annie brings the drugs and takes some brilliant pictures).

5. How long have you been following couple #6? (Natalie/Jeremy)
They slipped under my radar the first time I watched the show, mostly because I was completely distracted by the Dana/Casey. Natalie and Jeremy were cute, I liked them, but they got together, you know? I was interested in the couple that wasn't together yet (will they? won't they? will I get home from class in time to watch?), so I completely missed out on the OTP that is Jeremy/Natalie. Luckily, I got it when I watched the Comedy Central re-airing. I'll probably never write them, but in my head they are happy together forever and ever amen.

6. What's the story with #8? What made you stop liking them/caring? (John/Rodney)
Basically, oversaturation + waning interest in the source material = me not giving a damn anymore.

7. Which ship do you prefer - #2 or #4? (Eric/Tami or Geoffrey/Ellen)
Battle of the smokin' hot canonical het couples. Right now I'd say Eric/Tami, but I'm not sure how much of that is actual preference and how much is just based on the fact that I've watched FNL way more recently than S&A.

8. You have the power to make one ship non existent. Choose from #10 or #12. (Josh/Donna or Buffy/Angel)
Josh/Donna, no question. While I never liked Buffy/Angel, I do recognize its importance, in terms of story and character development. Josh/Donna just always felt sort of unhealthy and annoying.

9. What interests you about #14? (Pete/Patrick)
It hits both my BFF and boys in bands kinks (see #1, Mick/Keith).

10. When did you stop liking #7? (Jim/Pam)
Okay, so, basically, season 3 Jim is sort of an asshat. Also, fandom severely soured me on the pairing.

11. Did your waning interest in #9 kill your interest in the show? (Dana/Casey)
No, which, looking back, actually surprises me, as I was way more ship-driven when I first watched Sports Night than I am now. Of course, the show ended with season 2, so it's not like there was more show to watch after the crash and burn that was The Dating Plan and s.2 Dana/Casey. But I still love the show, flaws and all, ruined Dana/Casey, and all, so there is that.

12. What's a song that reminds you of #5? (CJ/Toby)
Not in a good way, necessarily, but I unfortunately can no longer hear, think about, or even mention Hands Clean without thinking of CJ/Toby. In general, Leonard Cohen is my basic soundtrack to the pairing, and Chelsea Hotel No. 2 especially makes me think of them. But Hands Clean, man, that song was the ubiquitous shipper song of its time, and while I can listen to Leonard Cohen without thinking about CJ/Toby I quite literally can't hear "we best keep this to ourselves and not tell any members of our inner posse" without going, "CJ and Toby on Josh's stoop!" and thinking about IP's (I think it was hers, at any rate) vid.

13. Which of these ships do you love the most?
Mick/Keith. There are over 40 years of canon: love and glue and epic fights and tricycles, women and music, drugs and prison, harmonica sex and mic-sharing, visible jealousy over the other's male friends/lovers (see: Bowie, David and Parsons, Gram). Even their women say they love each other best of all, and Marianne goes so far as to call Keith the love of Mick's life. Keith calls Mick his bitch and his wife, and their songs are their babies (and songwriting is like sex).

14. Which do you dislike the most?
Josh/Donna. It just, from the very beginning, rubbed me wrong, and as time went on, it got even worse. I'm not even sure why (okay, it could be that I never really liked Donna, and then I eventually lost my love of Josh, and if you don't like the characters involved it's pretty difficult to buy into the pairing).

15. If you could have any of these two pairings double date, who would it be?
Oh, if I could get young Mick & Keith on a double date with Buffy & Faith, that'd be... well, okay, it'd be an orgy, is what'd be, and Mick and Keith would probably end up injured, but that's not the point. The point is that'd also be smoking hot, and Mick and Keith would try to one-up each other and Keith would probably talk knives and leather trousers with Faith and Mick would just try so hard, and he'd want that orgy so much, and eventually everyone'd get naked the end.

16. Have #2 kissed yet? Elaborate if you'd like. (Eric/Tami)
Yes, and oh yes. (Watch the show. Watch "Mud Bowl," in particular. Yes.)

17. Did #4 have a happy ending? If the show hasn't ended yet, do you think a happy ending is likely? (Geoffrey/Ellen)
They do have a happy ending: at the end of the series, they marry and run off to restart Theatre Sans Argent. You know it's not going to be easy, that they're going to fight and fuck up and they'll be broke and it'll be a struggle, but you also know they love each other and they're going to try and that's what matters.

18. What would make you start shipping #14? (Pete/Patrick)
A step to the left, and then a jump to the right. I'm basically thisclose to shipping them already, thanks to a weekend at my mother's spent reading primers and source material and watching video and, yeah, I'm easy like that. What can I say? Any shame I once had is long gone, I've gone over to the dark (RPS) side, and boys in bands are my kryptonite.

19. If only one could happen, which would you prefer - #2 or #6? (Eric/Tami or Natalie/Jeremy)
Eric/Tami. I mean-- and this is just to start, just one reason among many-- if they'd never gotten together, there'd be no Julie. So there's that. It could also be that we come into things with Eric and Tami married and happily so-- they've got problems, as does everyone, but they love each other and they make it work-- and Jeremy and Natalie don't even know each other at the start of Sports Night. It feels like more of a loss were Tami and Eric never to get together, more time and effort put in, is all. Also they are Coach and Mrs. Coach and, seriously, my love for them makes me make these embarrassing squeaky noises every single episode.

20. You have the power to decide the fate of #10. What happens to them? (Josh/Donna)
They get married, have babies, and it slowly eats away at their souls. They divorce, the kids are unhappy, Josh starts sleeping with this intern who kind of reminds him of Sam and eventually remarries; Donna never really manages to get over her sort of basic codependency issues, but she never remarries either, which is a step in the right direction. They see each other at graduations and the like, and it's never not awkward and horrible and painful (and, "tell your mother," "tell your father"). When their youngest gets married, they get drunk and fuck one last time. (What? So I've thought about it. Some. Shut up. I might need to write this, actually.)

In conclusion, watching part of today's Red Sox game by half-leaning through the open window at the bar around the corner: totally classy, right?

meme!, music, telly
