So, as promised:
Well, Melbourne was a wonderful break. I spent the first three days of our (week-long) mid-semester break writing Philosophy Essay #1, before gladly packing that up to leave for Melbourne on Thursday night.
Okay, so... shopping!!
Our first day in Melbourne was our Allocated Shopping Day. We thought we should try and get it out of our system as quickly as possible, seeing as how both Jase and I were desperate to go!
Firstly, we made our way to Chadstone, a massive shopping centre. It wasn't as easy to find as it should have been, considering how huge it was! We got off at the wrong railway station (silly incorrect online information), and then walked for about half an hour (in exactly the wrong direction) before finally asking someone where we were supposed to go. It turned out it was about 5k away! So we flagged down the next taxi to take us there, to save our poor feet...
Anyway, that was a successful shopping day on Jase's part, but not so much on mine. I only managed to get a Father's Day present and a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle action figure... so I was a bit disheartened. Luckily I got my fill of shopping on Saturday and Sunday, though! Thank goodness Jase is quite shopping-inclined :)
Quick rundown of purchases (which I'm sure you're all very excited about):
1 singlet top, 2 pretty tops, 1 AWESOME kinda expensive pretty t-shirt top (black, with red asian-style crossed over collar), 2 pairs of trousers.
So! Now that the shopping part is over with...
The rest, and things
Jase and I stayed with some friends of his in St Kilda, which is fairly close to the main part of the city. They were really lovely people... and they also fed us good food and alcohol! Jase's friend's wife gave me a try of port (which is a bit funny-tasting) and also apple vodka (which is rare here, and very yummy!).
Friday night I also met up with my friend Danika, who I haven't seen in absolutely ages... that was rather nice too. We hung around Jase's friend's place for a beer or two, and then went out to dinner at a Thai restaurant.
Saturday was relatively quiet, aside from going to a discount shopping warehouse for a few hours. I played on Jase's friend's xbox a lot. Martial arts fighting games are fun! In the evening Jase and I went to the main street in St Kilda for a wander. We had italian for dinner, and stopped off at a gelato place further down the street for dessert. They gave us the MASSIVEST ice-creams ever! We both ended up having to throw away half of them, which we felt a bit bad about. They were so very yummy, though :)
Finally, on Sunday we went to the Melbourne Zoo. That was fun, it was the most gorgeous day. It was also Father's Day, so we were lucky that we got there early enough to avoid the hordes of families who appeared around 11am. They all seemed to be pushing strollers, with multiple children running along behind.
As usual, I went to see the red pandas (sleeping high up in the trees, so we couldn't see them) and the otters (lying around sleepily on the bank, rather than frolicking in the water as usual). This time, though, I was most impressed with the lions. One came and walked right under us (we were on a bridge over the pen), and he just looked so very impressive. Rippling muscles and big paws and tawny fur! There was also a massive reticulated python in the reptile house... that was very cool too.
The Zoo! The Zoo!
After that we made our way back into town... and wandered around a shopping centre there before heading home to Jase's friends place. And then after dinner we went to the airport and made our way home to Lil Old Tassie :)
Aaand... here's two photos of me with my new (well, it's a few months old, now) haircut. Both of them are silly and blurry because I took them with my phone :)
I have a funny "don't-look-at-me, I'm-taking-a-picture-of-myself" expression on my face in the second one, but my hair is slightly more interesting so I thought I'd include that one too.
I've now got a funny side-part going on, but on the whole I like my new hair. It's nice to have a change. It's a pity it grows out so quickly though!
(it was so blue and green and summery that day... and now it's been raining for 24 hours non-stop!)
