Can anybody advise as to the preferred method to do an ipod install (with direct line into the head unit) on a 2005 Mazda3? I know there is a way to plug it in through an auxillary input - some website mention that it's done through the hook up that is meant for the CD changer. Does that mean I cannot keep the CD Changer connected if I want the ( Read more... )

Here you go.

I have the PIE interface for my Mazda, works great.

If you haven't joined these forums yet, I highly recommend it, anything and everything you'd ever want to do to your Mazda can be found here, not to mention that it's also another great online community.

Have fun.

i think what is confusing me is Gen 4- versus Gen 5 ipod hook-up? I'm looking for something that would charge the ipod, so I'm assuming something with a dock connector. In that case, I think I would need the P.I.E. adapter, something to convert the Alpine to RCA-in, and then a conversion between the dock connector and RCA out? It seems like there should be an easier way to do it, or maybe I should just go through the ipod headphone jack and get an after-market charger.

Do you not have the in-dash changer?

As far as I know there are no Aux in on the Mazda3 stereo.
I've seen a pretty indepth review of a pioneer product that allowed limited control through the wheel controls. Just track advance, but that was over a year ago. I'm sure there are products that are designed to do full digital control by now....

Look around http://mazda3forums.com for some stuff that has been tested by users there.

Ah, I think that's what confused me. When they said CD changer, I thought it was referring to the in-dash. Makes more sense now.

I did check out the mazda3forums.com site, but there was so much information there, and no actual post with equipment and instructions listed, so I got frustrated. Also I didn't see much information about connecting a Gen 5 ipod.
