I don't know about prices or the MP3 specifically, but...

I have a 2001 Mazda Protege and LOVE IT! It's got 84,000 miles now and I put on at least 300 a week. It has never had ANY problems except for the flat tires I like to get. The only things that have been replaced are timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, etc. And the rotors have been done a few times.

I'm a horse person too, and it does quite well through snowy/muddy barn roads. It's amazing how much stuff I can fit in that thing. :)

haha i noticed the icon while looking through the posts.. yes for horsepeople.

and its great that they handle well in snowy/muddy roads-i live in Michigan, its winter 9 out or 12 months!

i guess a generalized question i have is do stick shifts handle worse in the winter/snowy roads than automatics? Cuz I drive an auto now but I have driven a stick in the summer only, and yeah! Since its all back country roads to the barn which are hilly, I don't want a car thats going to be sliding all over it (however, thats not entirely a auto/manual problem...)

Not sure about manual vs. auto (mine's auto). But I know it went pretty crappily until I got some decent snow tires on it. That's probably the case for any car. But I do tend to shift into 1st and 2nd a lot when driving in the snow. I live in upstate NY so I know what nasty winters are all about, unfortunately.

Skinny-atlas haha. I'm east of Albany - basically where Ny/Vt/Ma come together. We have our own miniature snow belt. I have my bitty town's only Protege. :)
