Marian made her way down the castle corridor. She couldn’t sleep. Staying in the castle did not help. The screams that wafted up from the dungeons did not make for pleasant dreams. Walking seemed to be the only thing that helped. Passing the endless castle doors lulled her to sleep.

Fortunately, she found out that at exactly midnight each night the guards disappeared for thirty minutes. It seemed a bit odd, but she was grateful for the alone time.

Marian wandered up and down the halls. She suddenly found herself lost in a little used portion of the castle. It was the most ancient part of the structure and was in desperate need of repair. Marian walked gingerly across the worn floor. She paused.

Lights flickered under the door of one room. No one should be in this wing of the castle, she thought. She edged closer to the door. She heard muffled voices on the other side.

She quietly pulled the door open an inch and peered in. The room was inhabited by at least a dozen black cloaked figures. She stifled a gasp. The Black Knights! What could they be doing?

One of the cloaked figures stood up and removed his hood. It was the sheriff. Vaisey walked up to the front of the room.

“Fellow members, we are gathered here tonight because of a united purpose, a common cause! We have come here to discuss the greatest threat to each of our futures. A force so unstoppable that it has at one time or another hindered each one of us,” Vaisey stated.

Marian frowned. What force?

“We all fear it,” Vaisey continued, “But, we must face our fears!”

The robe-clad men murmured their agreement.

“So, without further ado, I call this meeting to order. I would like to invite the presiding overseer to speak.” Vaisey said seating down.

“Thank you,” replied one of the men.

A chill went down Marian’s back. She knew that voice well. No one else had a voice quite like it. It was Gisborne. How did he get to be the presiding overseer of the Black Knights?

“Tonight, we welcome another member to our small band. He has suffered as we all have. I would like to open the floor up to him.”

Another person stood up and removed his hood. Marian groaned within. It was Allan. Of course, that traitor would join the Black Knights!

“Hello… my name is Allan,” he slowly.

“Hello, Allan,” the others responded enthusiastically.

“I would have joined your society a long time ago, if I‘d known it existed. I didn’t know that others felt the way I do. But now that I do know, I want to share my story.”

The crowd broke out in applause. Marian felt a little sick.

“My suffering has been going on for a while now, but recently it’s gotten worse. I was just minding my own business the other day when…that dagger… to my neck…” Allan started sobbing loudly.

Another member of the group got up, went to Allan, and embraced him.

Marian stared at them mystified. What sort of Black Knights were these? Maybe she had stumbled onto one of Vaisey’s ‘secret parties’ that she’d heard rumor of.

“We know, brother, we have all been there,” the other figure removed his hood as Allan continued to cry loudly.

It was Robin. She rubbed her eyes. She blinked. Yes, it was Robin. It was Robin at a Black Knight meeting with…Allan…and Gisborne…and Vaisey! Oh, my!

“That little jeweled dagger looks so innocent in her hair, but it is scary,” Robin continued.

“Not as scary as her betrayals,” Gisborne muttered bitterly as he crossed his arms over his chest.

“Or her interfering,” a voice Marian identified as Much added.

“That’s why Gisborne and I created the “Society of People who are Afraid of Maid Marian” to discuss these issues and support one another. Despite our differences, we all have to be ready to face this issue on a daily basis,” Robin declared.

Marian’s chin hit the floor. A support group for people who were afraid of her? And it was full! She knew she could be a little...intense, but she only wanted to help people!

In addition, Robin was part of it! Not only Robin, but also his entire gang was involved as well! No to mention the little fact that Gisborne and Robin were working together. Now, Marian knew she would be sick.

“I’m still don’t like the name, calling her Maid Marian might be a little off the mark, if you know what I mean,” Vaisey drawled.

“Hey,” Gisborne yelled, “How dare you say that? We might all be afraid of her, but half of us are also in love with her!”

“Well, she didn’t try to kill you, now did she, Gisborne? At least, not yet,” Vaisey said raising his voice, "If I hadn't looked down, I would be dead right now!"

Vaisey shuddered and put his hood back over his nearly bald head.

"I'm not sure that would have been all together terrible," Will Scarllet murmured.

“Please, let’s not start another argument. We have to get on with the meeting. I have to see her in thirty minutes. I need help. I'm so afraid," another member stated.

Marian identified him as one of her guards. She narrowed her eyes. So, this is where the guards have been going at night. That was the final straw. Marian burst through the door. She would give them something to fear….
