We got a whole new batch of exchange students last week. Everything is so new and exciting to them. Gosh it really feels like I've been here way longer than 5 months. I remember what it was like first getting here, everything was so terrifying haha. Now it all feels so familiar and I know I will be sad to leave. Though the way my search for return flights is going, perhaps I won't be going home...
But anyway I figured it was high time for another journal entry, I so haven't kept any kind of daily journal like my school wanted ^^; Oh well.
I'm enjoying the dorms. Looking back, I was a bit of a nervous wreck in homestay. I never knew what I was suppose to be doing, what they thought of me, if I was being a nuisance... Our conversations were always so hard, so I think neither of us had the energy to explain our plans to each other. And Rena...that little girl was such a monster. She made everything even harder. I couldn't do anything right with her around. The dorm is much less stressful, and I can make all kinds of international friends. Though my new roommate is not international at all, she actually goes to school in Illinois like me, which is disappointing. I don't think we have much in common. But she's nice enough. My winter break roommate and my best friend here is going to homestay, her family seems really great, they have a cat and no kids! Sounds so nice. It makes me kinda wish I did homestay again, but it feels weird and selfish to want to try again. Nah I'm sticking with dorms. It's new experience, I never did dorms in America either. Plus, I'm in with the Japanese RAs, one of them was my friend's roommate last semester AND she wants to study abroad at MY university next year! So those are great connections to have with an RA. I get to practice my Japanese with her too. Certainly I won't get as much practice as I did with homestay, but I also won't feel the urge to inflict bodily harm on myself and others.
In other news, I took a ceramics class over winter break and made a new friend! She is from Morocco and she's great. She actually kind of reminds me of my mom, but I love my mom so it's all good. We've been getting along great, we are planning an 8 hour long karaoke session (at my suggestion, it won't be my first time) among other things with her Japanese friends. We even plan to go see Lady Gaga in April! She's coming right around my birthday it should be amazing. I also really want to see Beauty and the Beast live here. It's only $30 I think? But I can get a good seat for half off, usually its $98 but I can get it for $50 because I'm a student. I'll think about it.
Let's see well, got my first taste of Dr. Who over winter break! I really liked it, started with watching all the episodes for the ninth Doctor. Looking forward to seeing more of the tenth, we watched the episode Blink today with the tenth Doctor. It was a good one. I have no idea when I will have the time to watch all of the series. We also started Torchwood which seems lovely, I really liked Captain Jack so I'm happy to see him again!! Plus all this Jack and Ianto business sounds promising heh. Watched all of the British Queer as Folk which was AMAZING! I wanna own it! Young, British, gay Charlie Hunnam! I also watched the entire second season of Sons of Anarachy (with older, American, straight Charlie Hunnam) which was also AMAZING as expected. The ending made me D: and I watched it in the morning while chatting with a friend who was also watching it and had seen it before. It was not the brightest note to start the morning on but it was fun watching it with my friend. I miss American TV! I finished off last season of Psych (loved the finale) and I'm watching the first episode of the new season now. Poor Gus, no one knows his name and he was forced to do push ups. I have to watch the new episode of Supernatural soon! It's a must.
:D I should REALLY update this more often. I'm excited! New and last semester at Kansai Gaidai!
