Just dropping in for some brief words before diving back into work. So yes, at the moment I really can't formulate a complete review for the film I watched yesterday, and a) It just feels far too soon before a Japanese DVD release before I can more properly submit a full-worded review. b) The feelings the film gave me were akin to an experience that I haven't had with an anime feature in quite some time. As much as I love the films of Mamoru Hosoda, this was an experience more akin to The End Of Evangelion.(quite possibly the closest franchise film next to The Dark Knight that I've seen in recent years that truly shook me) For me, the feelings are still too near for me to elucidate.
Let's just say for now, that it simply met and surpassed any expectations I may have had for it prior. And it also serves as a really good argument for risk-taking feature film anime that slips beyond the bounds of moe-schtick, and offers a pointed response to the last several years in the medium. And given it's impressive theatrical run, may hopefully encourage more money to be spent in wiser areas. For its 2 hour and 40 minute runtime, I was nothing less than captivated.
In other news..Yeah...It's kinda quiet, and near bone dry at the office as things haven't been going as gangbusters are perhaps my boss had expected. As many businesses as I have contacted, it has been rather quiet. But it's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid. It's a tattered, and tired industry at the moment, and responses aren't going to be immediate. My hope is that things will eventually pick up now that a pretty big target has opted to place us in his catalog. The exposure there should be nice, but only time will tell. And I also have little faith that endless calls will improve things by much. In fact, I'm of the belief that too much is a big turnoff. A few contacts here, and a few voice mails should be enough. If there was another avenue of attack in this current climate, I'd sure love to know it.
