Night with the goddess and ex-emperor

01.
I've started working in my new company since Monday.

[So far so good... I guess? lol]

My job title is Jr Web Graphic Designer, but I'm actually more of an intern trying to learn as much as I can since I have no job experience in the graphic design industry. Also, web design was not my major when I was studying in Japan though I did enjoy the web design module and even did consider majoring in it.

So far, work has been pretty much what I expected. I'm happy I get to use softwares like Photoshop and Illustrator all day (though I really need to start learning how to use Firework). My Japanese language, Japanese cultural knowledge and HTML skills are fully utilized too. Other than Autodesk Maya and 3D stuff, I'm totally using what I've learnt from Japanese Studies and what I studied 2 years in Japan. The satisfaction is there when my designs are approved and for once I can totally pat myself on my back and say with pride, hey, I've walked a long path but I'm finally here!

But of course, I have some reservations and worries too. Getting approvals for my designs involves lots of rejections and revision requests. I don't find rejection difficult to accept, but I do worry that my supervisors might find my pace unsatisfactory or perhaps not appreciate my sense and style in design. Also, my previous jobs always required interaction with customers, suppliers and colleagues and I'm used to chatting, emailing lots of people. But as a designer, I don't get to talk to people outside of the office, and my colleagues who mainly consist of designers and IT engineers are obviously not the very chatty type either. I guess that's the 'designer thing'? In any case, it just gets a little frustrating not being able to chat at work. Like what Venus says, it's like working with plants and zombies, even if they are friendly and very professional plants and zombies. orz

Anyway, that's all I can say about work for now.
Wish me luck for in the coming days!

About 4 months ago, I got to know an NUS junior called Venus while doing an interpretation part time job.

As fate would have it, she happened to be a friend of Han too. So on Friday, Venus suddenly suggested that the three of us meet up for dinner and drinks. Considering that I've only met Venus a total of 3 times, and Han has only met Venus once although they often keep in touch via whatsapp, our meeting was really random but great fun because somehow we really clicked.

Our meeting place was at Clarke Quay since Venus was working in the area and it was the most convenient location to have dinner and drinks. Han had to OT so Venus and I had dinner first. At her recommendation, we had dinner at the newly opened Tamoya at Liang Court.

Tamoya Udon at Liang Court.

I actually had udon with Jin on Thursday night at Kazoku Tei, but because I love udon (And yes I now love Shinhwa's WooDong too), I can eat udon everyday.

Anyway, Tamoya's udon is really good, very Q. The overall meal is authentic, delicious and the price is very affordable. You pick the kind of broth you want with the udon, and you can add on the fried mushrooms, chicken etc as toppings. On top of that, the small restaurant also had an authentic Japanese 'canteen' or 'うどん屋' feel. I seriously felt like I was back in Japan. I'll definitely be visiting this restaurant again.

Dulcet & Studio at Liang Court

At around 8, Han finally arrived and we headed to Dulcet & Studio for cakes. I had come to know about this "New Japanese Lifestyle Café" only recently during the interpretation baito I was working for with Venus and had been looking forward to trying it out since then.

Han ordered a bacon salad for dinner. For the cakes, we ordered their Signature Scoop Cake, Strawberry Shortcake and Cheese Chiffon with the intention of sharing. However, we ended up having one cake to ourselves because that particular one suited our tastes. For me I absolutely love their Cheese Chiffon which was really light yet cheesy, sweet and creamy enough.

After desserts, we left Liang Court and strolled around the area to look for a place for drinks. We ended up at The Bungy Bar, which was located right beside the Singapore River and was not too noisy or crowded. We bitched about past job experiences over a bucket of Hoegaarden until around midnight when we parted ways. Hopefully, we'll have a chance to do this again soon.

Anyway, I really do love the Clarke Quay area in Singapore. It's ranked right behind MBS when it comes to my favourite nightview spot.

Clarke Quay in the evening. The weather was slightly cloudy that day so it wasn't the most beautiful sight.

Walking along the Singapore river. Restaurants, bars and clubs line the Singapore River on both sides. Foreigners, tourists and clubbers crowd at Clarke Quay and Boat Quay every Friday and Saturday night. Though I don't enjoy clubbing, I like the bars. And I especially love feeling the excitement in the air and watching all the happy smiling people milling about.

The Central Foundation Square.

The beautiful fountain. Love the lights. But I wish I had a better camera. lol
