Sushi, chococlate cakes and Fuji cameras

Since I'll be starting work in March, I invited Chun over for a last baking and cooking meet-up today.
Our challenge were Japanese sushi and moist chocolate cake!

Sushi is of course, not a first-time for me so it was pretty easy. It was making the tamago-yaki (egg roll) that was difficult. I failed on my first try while using a really tiny pan, and then three quarter-succeeded on my 2nd try using a larger pan and following what Hime had shown me during the CNY gathering at her house. My tamago-yaki ended up really pretty and appropriately sweet, but with wings on both edges as I wasn't able to flip it over properly during the last flip. But oh well, it was nice enough. Will definitely be making it again soon.

The moist chocolate cake, on the other hand, was our first attempt. Fortunately it ended up pretty well, just a bit thin and slightly overly moist in the middle. We followed a recipe from Love2Cook Malaysia, but instead of topping the cake with Chocolate Ganache, we topped it with vanilla ice cream and the combination was great. Will definitely be trying out this cake again since it was really simple and fast to make.

Recently, I've been thinking of buying an instant camera. It seems just kind of fun to actually own real photos and to be able to decorate the photos. So, Chun brought hers over for me to try and I totally fell in love with it.

What's fun about having an instant camera is that you have no idea whether the photo would turn out good or not. The anticipation during the 3 minutes wait for the instant film to develop is exhilarating. And decorating the photo afterwards is fun too.

Only problem is, it's really not cheap. The camera (plain without any designs) is actually very affordable at as low as SGD $65 ++. Those with designs such as Hello Kitty or Rirakkuma can cost up to $120++), but that's still not expensive for a camera. What is expensive are the instant films. Depending on where you buy them, each piece of film can cost between SGD $0.99 to S2. Which is really expensive when you take a lot of photos, keeping in mind that some photos might actually turn out really ugly or fail entirely because of the lighting or lousy camera skills.

Still, I'm hooked... because it's just so fun and challenging to take photos like this. It'll definitely be a fun toy to bring out during gatherings with friends. No photoshopping! Everything is original and raw! So... I'll probably be looking at prices around SG and in Japan first, but I am so definitely getting this.

I've decided to make my photo blog a “photo & manga blog".
It'll mainly be in Chinese though...
所以会看中文的都给我滚去看!
