I do not make a good invalid. I've been "on rest" for the past six weeks because my knee was messed up. Just making it through the average day without any additional exercise made it swell up like a balloon. So, I spent every night icing my knee to get the swelling down. The only dancing I've done in the past six weeks was for the Yule Revel at Cleftlands.
So, now that I'm "off rest" and allowed to start dancing again, I decide that 60 miles per hour is the correct speed to start. You know, 1/2 an hour of practice Sunday. 20 minutes of practice on Monday. Teach an hour dance class on Tuesday. Troupe practice Wednesday and Thursday. That shouldn't be too much, right? Right? Yeah. So, Thursday night, my knee - the OTHER knee - locked up and I couldn't make it up the stairs to my bedroom. I had to sit downstairs and ice it until we were on speaking terms again. I took it easy yesterday. I was supposed to be doing a 90-minute workshop and performance tonight in Erie, PA, but the weather forced me to stay "on rest".
I have to work on this "easing into" things. I just don't know when I've hit "too much." I stop when it hurts, but by that point, it's usually starting to swell.
Not the sharpest crayon in the box, am I? = )
