Except of course, there is. I found this link to
the 26 greatest SF tearjerkers. I agree with most of them, if not with their places in the rankings. For one thing, I think that about half the spaces should be taken by moments from the LOTR trilogy. "My brother. My captain. My king." I mean . . . come on! I cried more in those three movies than I've cried probably at all other movies combined. With the exception of the endings of Field of Dreams and The Color Purple, both of which reduce me to puddles of goo in the last few minutes. Still . . . I could probably have filled a small swimming pool with the tears I spilled throughout LOTR. And taking into account the number of times I've seen each of the individual movies (dozens, literally dozens), make that an Olympic size pool.
Anyway, browse the list. I strongly disagree with the #1 choice. I think it belongs on the list, but not that high up.
