Stay Away from the Detours

we are all looking for a shortcut in everything we do
taking the back streets to avoid a few stop lights
or typing 'ppl' instead of spelling out the word people
why must we look for the easy way out of life?
with every shortcut we take, we must gain some time
but that time is wasted on unimportant matters
our life becomes wasted and misinterpreted
views on society are thrown away and never found
if we take the long roads think about where you might go
think about having that time with a child beside you
you could share your life with his young mind
you'll give him the knowledge he couldn't get from a book
but only from the memories of an adult like yourself
don't give him lectures on how to live his life
tell him how you lived yours
don't leave out details you might regret
those might be the things that change his mind
so stay away from the detours in live
stare it straight in face, don't fear where you might end up
just know you're there for a reason
you just have to live your life to figure out what that reason is
