With the dramatic collapse of the SUV, full sized truck, AND mini-van markets, all three US automakers are in trouble compared to their Japanese counterparts. However this downturn isn't all sunshine and happiness for the Japanese automakers either. Toyota is loosing a considerable amount of money as they rush to retool factories to build more of their Prius hybrids to help satisfy enormous demand. Not to mention the list of other car manufacturers that have not built enough hybrids or build weak hybrids.
GM is actually toying the idea of selling some of its brand names as to raise cash, particularly its hard hit Hummer division which possibly may not be sold, GM might have to shut that division down.
