Again with the Wonder

And the fact that people rarely appreciate it.

This morning, on the car ride to work... I was thinking about fingers, and why it is that we have 5 different fingers in 4 different sizes... (The index and ring finger being about the same length and diameter.) Would hands work as well with fingers not sized like that?

Then it occurred to me that the different sizes meant they could do different things.

Your index finger is the perfect size, shape and location to get up into your nose.

Your middle finger is long and slender, for getting the last kernels of popcorn out of the bottom of those cartons you get at the baseball field, or the circus.

Your ring finger is a backup, for your versatile index finger... it's on the other side, cause the middle finger works best if it's in the... well... middle.

The Pinky finger is perfect for sticking in your ear, to get the wax out of them, or scratch an itch in there... (though most doctors advise against this practice.)

The thumb, is the only digit on the other side of our opposable grasp, and we all know they that's there... for grabbing stuff. So making it the widest finger, makes it stronger and stuff, since it’s alone over there... yesh.

I shared this theory with my mother, who then informed me that it was 7:58 in the morning and not time for thinking about fingers.

What time _IS_ appropriate for thinking about fingers?

(Personally I think it was the idear that the index finger is so well suited for picking of noses that lessened the credulity of my theory, though that's really beside the point. The gross factor should never be taken into account in scientific theory, otherwise we never would have had penicillin, (which comes from Mold.))

Still it only goes to show that the world underates the thinking about of things outside the mainstream. I was told that I need to know my audience, like making everyday conversation is supposed to be a performance designed to captivate and delight the other party.

Last I checked discussion was a forum for the sharing and discussion of ideas. It's not as if the whole world is going to end if we take a little time out to discus somthing other than taxes, bills, and the latest about what he said that she said when they were alone in the conference room.

What kind of world would it be if we all stuck to such a script? If we were only allowed to think of current events, and happenings and how they effect ourselves, our family and close friends.

I'm allowed to ponder things, only so much as they relate to the "real" world. Nothing theoretical, or otherwise non-applicable to my current situation. It's got to be productive. It's got to improve my standing on the world so that I can be successful and have many many friends go to work, achieve something, earn a raise, wear a necktie...

Sorry, that last bit was an X-files Quote (From achieve something, on,) and that's not applicable to the "real" world. Or is it? Eh? That's the Problem...

To make another fictitious Analogy, it's like the wired (the internet... a la "Serial Experiments Lain.") Where does the real begin and the fantasy end? What is REAL? Can you have a real friendship on the web? Can you find True Love that way?

Most people I know agree the answer to the last is no, but I've seen it happen... at least I'm pretty sure I have. You can never be 100% sure of something you weren't there for... but I'd say 99% sure. so if they are wrong about that, can't they be wrong about other things too? This isn't all THAT complicated? Where is reality anyhow?

Then... where is my dream?

That is the extension of reality.

My... where is my reality?

That is at the end of the dream.

Oooopps!!! More fiction. (End of Eva... though it may be an indirect quote depending on the quality of translation.)

Oh well... I guess I'm living at the border of these things... could be worse, I mean, at least I don't want to kill everyone for not understanding me. I'm not Shinji.

8^)
