Seriously? You're using Beauty and the Beast and Mulan as examples of sexism in Disney films? Far be it from me to deny that Disney can promote deeply flawed messages about gender and heteronormativity, but that was an INCREDIBLY disingenuous video you just did right there. Gaston might be a manly man, and the Beast might have been unwilling to fight, but there's just one teensy little problem - Gaston is the antagonist. We hate him. As for the less masculine values of compassion and caring? That was EXACTLY what the Beast had to CULTIVATE in order to get Belle to like him. And did I mention that we're supposed to hate misogynist macho Gaston? And as for that "Girl Worth Fighting For" song in Mulan - well that was the whole point of the movie - it's about Mulan's journey, and that involves navigating her way as a woman through a world that's full of machismo and coming out on top, which she does. This video-maker had a chance to make a compelling point and shot himself in the foot by using awful examples that don't hold water at all when you put them in context. Fail. I am dissapoint.
Also: Why the singling out of Disney? IDGI. I'd rather have people watch Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid than Sex and the City or Everybody Loves Raymond. JFC.
