Appropriate song for current events
I had this Tom Paxson song, sung by Arlo Guthrie:
on an album I listened to over and over again as a pre-teen. (I had no idea at all what it meant at the time; I remember getting my mother to explain it to me.) It's been stuck in my head again, for obvious reasons. It's worth a listen.
I've been following the news as closely as I have time for on this one, because I have a sense that we could be seeing a major change in the US approach to the markets, Maybe it's finally time to stop worshiping at the #^$@ altar of Ronald Reagan (see here for an appropriate bit of snark on the subject.) This post helped me understand what the two basic alternatives for bailing out banks mean. The issues of executive pay and restructuring mortgages in foreclosure are also important, but those already made some sense.
