Okay, as some of you know, I belong to a mailing list at Yahoo!groups for fans of the actor Jason Flemyng. Jase, of course, played Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in my beloved LXG. I really rather like the guy, have enjoyed all of the performances I've seen him give (even his role in Spice World), and the best thing about this mailing list is that Jason himself sometimes sends notes -- about once a month, on average -- to let us know how his current projects are going and what he's planning to do in the future. He sent a very sweet message after the London bombings last year, assuring us that he and his family were all right and hoping that we all were too.
Jason's most recent message to the list came a few days ago, so I wasn't expecting to hear from him for a while. But I did respond to his letter; he had written about being in India and some of his experiences. I wrote and mentioned that my stepfather was from India, that my mom had said much the same thing about the country (it makes you want to laugh and cry at the same time), and that I hoped he would get the part he's after. I meant to send it to the list, but on balance, I think I may have written to him directly by mistake. I don't recall.
Anyway, there was a message in my inbox today from "jaseflem," which is how his emails always come. I was a little surprised to see him writing to the list so soon, but clicked to see what he had to say. As it turns out, he hadn't written to the list.
I just got a personal email from Jason Flemyng.
Granted, he doesn't SAY very much. But who cares? It's the principle of the thing.
hiya laura! everything cool with you! just sitting here biting my nails waiting to hear the final result about stardust!! love jason
(He never uses capital letters. Stardust is, of course, the film in which he's hoping to snag a part.)
Naturally I wrote back, thanking him for his note, telling him the list members were rooting for him being cast, and wishing him a happy St. Patrick's Day. I don't know that I'll hear from him again, but heck. That was still pretty damn cool of him to write to me.
