SCaRE 2012

This was my first time running a convention game as a lead.  Normally I'd have asked Luke to be there to help me out, but for various reasons that was no longer a possibility.  I got Donald to take the second job, but about two weeks before the con he had things come up and had to back out.  While I wasn't mad at him given his reasons, I had a few spaz attacks.  Thankfully I got a bunch of last minute help who knew the subject matter and enough science background to be perfect for running things and NPCs.

I've ST'd a long time, so I know that no plot survives contact with players.  Still, I felt it better to over-prepare than be caught off guard with common sense scenario planning.

Justin decided the night before that he wanted to go.  We had to figure out who would watch the cat, where he would sleep, and there was another few rounds of last minute spazzing.  It changed all my plans, though at least Alex wasn't put out by any of it.  Instead of riding, I'd now be driving, but it was okay since Ryan paid for all the gas and he'd be covering the room too.

Driving in Houston is a pain in the ass, but thankfully we didn't get lost this time.  The hotel was decent and had a lot of good food nearby.  Sadly we never got to have the legendary dim sum in the Galleria, as when we looked it up we saw how expensive it was.

There was a fair amount of people there, close to last year, I think.  A few people didn't recognize me due to the weight loss and hair change.  Most comments were nice.  Others were... "Hur hur, you used to be three times that size!"  and variations thereof.

My game went fairly smoothly, largely in part to Weston, Josh, and Robert.  I'd given them some of the tougher parts to handle, that I wouldn't have done as well with myself.  I'm grateful for all their help- I didn't even have a panic attack.  People seemed to enjoy it, even Justin got involved.

Afterwards I crashed hard and slept through vampire, trying about half an hour of Requiem before I saw it was a lost cause.  I'd been feeling kind of 'meh' about vampire in general for a while.   I tried a bit harder in Cam/Anarch, but gave up after about an hour or so.  Good thing, too, as clusterfucks and killboxes happened soon after.

Sunday we drove to my mother's to see her for a little while on Easter before driving Ryan home and getting back to BR.  It wasn't a bad con and I enjoyed seeing people, but I was very glad when it was over and to get home.
