100 things: 100 photos - photo 19

I really like this photo. I like it because it's a snapshot taken at an unexpected angle. I like the visual impact of the limited amount of colours and the simple shapes. I like the movement and the sense of transient. I like that I can remember - even after so many years - exactly where I was when I took this picture and exactly how I felt. This is an emotionally powerful image for me.

This photo doesn't even need a title or a date. It is stated quite succinctly on the photo itself that it was taken in the city of Thessaloniki during the 48th Thessaloniki International Film Festival that took place between the 16th and the 25th of November of 2007. For the few years that I was able, I lived and breathed the Thessaloniki Film festival, and it's sister festival the Documentary Festival. There is something unique about living a festival all day every day during it's duration, it's very different from just visiting it for a show or two. And it's something you never forget.
