I'm running off to pick up materials for a weird commission I'm working on. Will tell you all about it when it's finished.
But before that I've been thinking about what to make my sister for her birthday. It's a month away, but it's best to start early. I want to make her a scarf. She's not a big fan of silk, but that's all I have available at the moment. She is however a big fan of owls. And my father had given me some good ideas a while back when we were talking - he said I should try out ancient greek motifs because they speak culturally to many europeans. So I put these two ideas together and carved myself a stamp based on the typical greek owl that was used on the ancient greek drachmae, and then re-used on the modern greek drachmae, until we went to euros, when it has been re-used again. Because we greeks are very attached to our owl.
I haven't yet started on the scarf - it is currently newly dyed blue because my sister likes blue, and dripping wet in the shower - but I was rather excited about my new stamp and wanted to use it. So I test-drove it by stamping some notebook covers to see how it looks. I haven't yet sewn the notebooks up, but I'm quite happy. My owl is scruffy but cute I think.
What do you think?
Two A6 notebook covers
One A5 notebook cover
But shhh! don't let my sister know. It's going to be a surprise! Thankfully she can't be bothered to read my blog.
