Been watching a lot of movies and tv series this week

Oct 10, 2013 23:27

The last couple of days despite the weather being good I spent them cooped up at home. I'm feeling very down again, and not in the mood to wander around by myself as usual. Even my sister has blown me off this week.

So I've spent my time at home making stuff like crazy for my shop with the hope that when christmas comes closer I might actually make some sales. While "crafting" I've been busy marathoning american tv and cinema.

So what I have I watched?

I caught up on some of the Marvel movies I hadn't yet seen and saw:

[Captain America]
Captain America

Surprisingly better and more engaging than I thought. I thought it would have been all modern day and boring. Not that WWII is such an original time period for a film, but a period superhero is surprisingly more interesting.

I was kind of disorientated by whatshisface in the beginning. They CGI-ed his face on someone else's body I'm guessing. It looked very weird, but we can't expect everyone to pull a De Niro.

Kind of liked Hydra as the bad guys. Will we be seeing them again?

[The incredible Hulk]
The incredible Hulk

Huh, did not expect to see Edward Norton as the Hulk. He did add a certain gravitas to the role. Actually this film was also a lot better than I expected it to be. Maybe because it wasn't a superhero movie as much as a monster movie. And I do like monster / transformation movies.

Nothing much more to say, except I need more Edward Norton on my screen!

[Thor]
Thor

With a name like that I wasn't expecting much. It ended up being a crazy camp romp just like I thought it would be. But one with a very big budget. I ended up not paying much attention to the silly plot, because the crazy settings and costumes were quite engrossing. Boy were they on an acid trip when designing Asgard! Anyway lovely CGI settings, loved all the serious actors acting far better than this film deserved.

Hiddleston as Loki is always so much fun to watch. I used to read the Norse myths as a kid, and I always kind of liked Loki, because I could see where he was coming from. This film has nothing to do with the myths by the way. Thor I always found boring in the myths.

[Iron Man 3]
Iron Man 3

I had already seen the previous two because I love DRJ. So hmm, interesting. Iron Man with PTST. Makes sense I guess. Nothing much to say except, there was a cure for his heart condition all along and he didn't look into it? What? And did he really get rid of all his Iron Man suits and give up on the superheroing or did I misunderstand?

[The third episode of Agents of SHIELD]
The third episode of Agents of SHIELD

Dunno why, but it's sort of growing on me. There are plot holes galore and the writers grasp on physics and science seems kind of tenuous, but whatever I watch Doctor Who and used to watch Torchwood, I can do suspension of disbelief.

I like how they are trying to keep us guessing on who is lying to whom and whatnot and where hacker girl's true loyalties lie. I'm not actually invested enough yet to actually care or have an opinion, but I appreciate the effort. I'm still mainly watching for the techie duo, I love them! I love Simmon's geeky-chic style and Fitz's awkwardness.

So the party in Malta? That is why hacker girl looks stupid when she wears a ton of make-up just to beat a punching bag. Because when she genuinely should be dressing up, she ends up looking exactly the same! Maybe even a bit less made up. She is ridiculously pretty though. Everyone on american tv is ridiculously good looking.

I liked the twist with the scientist. I had sort of called it, or I would have if I were more invested in watching. But I hated the ending. The guy had a very valid point, and agent Coulson just ignores him and traps him in the dangerous elemental mass? Huh. And how did agent Coulson know that that would neutralise it? Whatever.

And then when I finished those, I decided to continue on the same streak and started watching Arrow. Mainly because the season 2 posters promised a lot of sexy men. So far I've seen the first six episodes of season one.

[Arrow season 1 episodes 1 to 6]
Arrow season 1 episodes 1 to 6

So let's see.
* tortured hero? check
* dead parent? (only one this time) check
* billionaire? check
* super secret underground high tech lair? check
* trade mark uniform and weapon? check
* pretending to be a wastrel party-boy to hide alter-ego? check
* love interest who is a reporter lawyer? check
* father of love interest who is head of police out to get him? check
* daddy issues? check

Am I missing anything? So yeah, it's so cliched it hurts. And that narration at the beginning? Gets on my nerves. But Arrow is pretty, no? Even prettier with his shirt off, because they were careful to only give him sexy manly scars and not really disfiguring ones.

Reasons I'm watching? It's brilliant as a background because it doesn't need my full attention. I'm eagerly awaiting him to amass a team. He will, won't he? There distinctly were at least three, if not four, shirtless men in the promos. So far he's made a good start with his bodyguard. I'm hoping his friend Tom will be next. And how about cute IT girl from the company afterwards?
