Correspondence from the London Design Festival.

I kind of disappeared for a while there. I posted a poll about superheroes - more about that at a later date - and then radio silence. Well, RL things were happening.

The week before last I was desperately trying to have a project ready in time for an architectural competition I was taking part in. I missed the deadlines, which put me in a funk. I put the project aside for now, but I will take it up again so I can add it to my portfolio.

And last week was London Design Week. I know London Fashion Week seems to get more press, but London DesignWeek is far superior. It's probably the biggest design event in the world, with 300 events going on. It's huge!

[More about London Design Week under here.]

They are way to many events for one person to go to, especially one person who lives an hour away from the centre of London and works weekends - when the best stuff is on. But I managed to go to the biggest stuff.

I wasn't feeling like carting my DSLR camera around. It's too heavy and far too conspicuous. Using the camera on my phone was easier and more discreet. The only problem is that I have a pretty primitive smartphone with a pretty rubbish camera. My phone doesn't even let me tweet photos! When ever I try, I just crash the twitter app.

Anyway I took photos, picked up the occasional business card and wrote up blog posts for each event I went to on my other blog. Since I don't know how many of you are into design - and in this case mainly product design - I'll just post links so you can check out my other posts if you want.

Monday I went to the Southbank Centre. I got there late, because I had stuff to do first, and found out many of the shows hadn't opened yet anyway, but I did catch some stuff. More details here.

Tuesday I went to the Victoria and Albert museum, where I went to a couple of talks and meandered around the museum to check out the installation pieces and exhibitions that were part of the LDF. More details here.

Wednesday I went all the way to Earl's Court Exhibition centre to see 100% Design, a big flashy trade show. More details here.

Thursday I went to design junction, a much more low key show, where I attended some talks and looked at three floors of showroom. More details here.

Sunday after work I went again to the Southbank Centre to see the shows I hadn't seen on Monday. More details here.
