event sign-up: the monsters

[Picture the perfect town.

Or maybe you don't have to. It's just outside your window as you pull the curtains shut after another perfect day working and another perfect dinner with your family. Everyone is preparing for another perfect night so they can wake up to another perfect morning in Mayfield, USA.

They're just like you. They look out those curtains too, peeking at the neighbors, watching you, reading the paper, walking the dog.

But once in a while, the perfection slips for just a moment. If you're still looking, you see the lights flicker off, one by one down Beaver Street to Benny Lane, as each family turns in for the night. For a moment, it's as dark as the corners of your nightmares.

They're just like you. They wash the dishes, brush their teeth, clean the blood from their knives, tuck the children in goodnight.

Something flashes in the sky, but only for an instant, and then it's gone. Maybe you saw it, maybe you were fast asleep in your bed, dreaming of places far away you're starting to forget.

They're just like you. They dream of happy children, screaming faces, delicious banquets, true love.

When Mayfield wakes up, something has changed. You look outside. It's not your street that's different - it's as calm and peaceful as when you last looked. It's not the neighbors. They wave the same friendly hellos, carry the same paper as they walk into the same house where they've always lived. It's certainly not your family.

Is it?

That's how it is always is, when they come here. They're just like you. They're your neighbors, your friends, your wife or husband as you fall asleep holding them just like every night before. And no one will know until it's far too late, because they're just like you.

Who knows.

Maybe it is you.]

In this post, we will be taking sign-ups for an event that will unfold over the next few weeks. The specifics will remain vague at this stage. However, the event may involve character death, disappearance, or brainwashing. You may still sign-up even if you will need to be on hiatus or unavailable for part of the duration of the event, but you should be likely to be around for a good portion.

Sign-ups are screened, and we will be randomly selecting some of those who sign up to PM with further details. At that point, you will still be allowed to opt out if you change your mind. Be sure to check your inboxes for PMs from the mod accounts. Those receiving PMs will be requested to keep the details a secret from the other players.

We will address questions in the comments as well, but please post them separately from a sign-up, as we will need to unscreen them in order to reply.

In addition, players who were involved in the recent riots will be automatically signed up.
