The Doctor had always suffered from insomnia. Or not-quite-insomnia most of the time; Time Lords needed much less that humans and that left him with lots of extra time at nights. As well as the fear of what crept in the edges of his mind when he dropped his defenses and slept. Though, he'd really like some sleep now, his body felt heavy and weak. But every time he tried, his mind and heart raced with thoughts of having a dream where the world was better if he didn't exist. It wasn't a new dream, but it had become more and more pronounced since the one induced by Mayfield.

He struggled to find things to keep him busy. He'd wired the TV to sync to the TARDIS so it could play their DVD collection, Monty Python was always enjoyable, even at night. But he couldn't concentrate on it even when remembering all the jams he'd gotten the crew out of. Sorry John, he thought as he stared blankly at the telly, arms wrapped around his knees, not really watching or listening.

Had he done the right thing coming back? Even if it had all been a dream, there had been a moment where he hadn't existed. He'd tricked Amy into bringing him back, but she was so happy before. Was she happy now? After she'd lost her baby and been kidnapped for months? The thought made him sick.

Right. Maybe he should have just decided not to come round this way. For all he knew, the Doctor would be sleeping, like he ought to be doing, really.

Well- he could at least try really checking first. Funny sort of thing about not being able to sleep. He was rubbish at doing it alone, and not afraid to admit to himself that he was a bit selfish about it as well.

... he could try Amy if nobody was awake here, too, even if he had very sincere hopes that she was managing a good night's sleep this time around. Nothing lost if nothing came of it, he reminded himself. Rory walked up, starting with the garage, and hesitated.

Garage-knocking-on. Really.

These things really were easier on the TARDIS.

[The Doctor jumps as he hears the knocking on the garage and bangs his knee painfully on the table. With a shout, he stumbles towards the garage door and opens it. His hair is tousled and he's got his glare on. But it's not very threatening, it's a mostly sleepy looking scowl.]

[ Oops. Rory does as he is wont to do and leans back a bit. ]

Oh. Sorry, I woke you up, didn't I. [ Well, it looks like he might have, he can only ever guess. Hold on. ] Doctor, were you sleeping in your garage?

No, you didn't. I wasn't sleeping.

[Rubs at his face with his arms.]

And so what if I have. It's a fine place for a nap.

[ Rory crosses his arms and leans against the side of the doorway. ]

It's a terrible place, actually. Especially when you've got a proper bed. [ Or couch, or floor, or anywhere really in the house. Or a TARDIS. ]

I don't need a proper bed for a nap.

[Yaaaaaaaaaaawn.]

Wasn't planning on sleeping anyway.

Couldn't sleep. [ Compleeetely casual shrug. So casual. Man he's great at this. ]

How terrible for you.

[stares at him blankly]

So I went for a walk. [ Linefacing. Right back. ] And I remembered that you apparently prefer to go around without sleeping, so I came by to check.

[ Make sure nobody was sobbing over a horrible accident or bleeding to death. Not think about a thing or two. ]

Nothing apparent about it. It's a biological fact.

[Sighs deeply. For all his talk, he looks tired.]

You really should be more careful.

[ Sc- scoff. ]

You're telling me to be more careful. You do realize how unnecessary that is, don't you?

You're the one wandering around at night.

On a quiet night. [ Stop making a little sense there, it's unbecoming. Quiet makes all the difference, okay! ] I think we've at least got a few days to go until we almost get killed again.

[ Probably not the best thing to be resigned to, but man it's been useful. ]
