Background: Many, many years ago, the Tribe of Benjamin was nearly wiped out after the Battle of Gibeah. Most of the tribe mixed in with the other tribes. The key word here being “most.”
There were some members of the tribe that, y'know, didn't really mesh well with the rest of the group. Sure, their symbol was a wolf, but they had always taken it so... literally. No one really minded much when their bushy-haired, sharp-toothed, raw meat-eating brethren set off for the mysterious West. Eventually, they forgot all about them...
Fast forward to Right Now and a young girl named Annabelle Goldstein. The only daughter of a proud New York werewolf family and an even prouder army brat, Annie spent most of her childhood moving from country to country with her parents and five brothers. Eventually, their travels led them to a sleepy little Massachusetts town called Wynter Hyll. Annie, then eleven, wrote it off as just another stop on her whirlwind tour of life and didn't plan on making any significant friends.
She hadn't planned on meeting Nasira Nassif. Who ended up becoming quite a “significant friend.”
Despite the obvious, irreconcilable differences between them, (I mean, Nasira is a vampire! Scandalous!) Annie and Nasira became fast friends and even faster girlfriends. When it came time for the family to move again, Annie, unwilling to leave her new love, pleaded with her oldest brother, Asher, to stay with her. They moved into a trailer on the other side of the train tracks and lived quite happily.
Now 17, Annie still lives in Wynter Hyll, where leaked magical radiation from the nearby Salem Witch Trials and a power even more ancient than that has made it a paranormal hotspot. The mayor is a vampire. The teachers' union has been replaced by a witches' coven. And Annie's best friend, Nicoletta Hyeung, just died in a tragic car accident. She got better.
Personality: As an army brat, Annie is very good at adapting to change. She makes friends like she breathes; people gravitate to her like moons gravitate to planets. However, while she may be good at making lots of friends, she has trouble when it comes to close friends. It's hard to let people close when you know that you're going to be packing up and traveling to Bumfuck, Nowhere every couple of months. When she does finally make a close connection with a person, that person has her, heart and soul, for the rest of their life.
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more cheery person than Annie. She almost always has a smile on her face (which can be somewhat disconcerting, considering the wolf teeth and all that) and a joke to tell. People usually mistake this for kindness, but it's most definitely not. Annie laughs the same way at a friend telling a joke and that same friend falling down the stairs, and she can be almost maliciously gleeful when teasing someone she doesn't particularly care for. Most of it is just good-natured teasing, however, and while you'd need to explicitly tell her (preferably in very small words) if you had a problem with it, she would stop immediately if told to do so.
Having a rather crude temperament is something of a racial trait with werewolves, if Annie and her family are anything to judge by. She likes dirty stories and considers Your Mom jokes to be the pinnacle of humor. She might be failing French class, but she can curse you out in several different languages. Tact? What is tact? Some kind of cheese? Annie wouldn't know. It's not that she purposefully doesn't consider others' reactions to what she says; she's just completely incapable of being offended and doesn't realize that not everyone is so lucky.
