Personal LJ: spellcoats
Contact Info: [email] artemisian at gmail, [AIM] troperific, [plurk] spellcoats
Other Characters Played: Mashiro Blanc de Windbloom (Mai-Otome), Saya Otonashi (Blood+)
Preferred Housing: With Apollo as her dad, please.

Character Name: Rachel Elizabeth Dare
Character Series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians by Rick Riordan
Character Age: 17
Background: idk my bff wiki. Only goes up through the end of PJO; doesn't yet cover book one in the new series, The Heroes of Olympus. But because I'm magical, I can do that.

After the events of The Last Olympian and the end of the Titan War, Rachel has started attending Clarion Ladies' Academy, just as she promised her father she would. But that winter, Percy Jackson, the unofficial leader of the demigods at Camp Half-Blood, vanished. Rachel returned to camp as soon as she could get away from school and her parents, where she met three new half-bloods: Jason, Piper, and Leo. She concluded that the Great Prophecy had begun, and gave a prophecy to Jason for his quest to rescue the imprisoned Hera. When Jason, Piper, and Leo returned, successful, from their quest, Rachel was present at the meeting between all of Camp Half-Blood's senior counselors and staff. There they determined the location of the missing Percy Jackson and plotted out their next course of action: to build a flying warship and unite with the Roman demigod camp in California.

Personality:
Rachel Elizabeth Dare has always known she didn't quite fit in. First there's her family: her father is the owner of an extremely influential company called Dare Enterprises that speculates on, sells, and develops unspoiled tracts of land. Being New York City socialites, the Dares have certain expectations for their daughter: they want her to be a model young lady.

But instead their daughter has a strong independent streak. She is vivacious and sociable, more artistically than fiscally inclined, and open to new ideas and adventures. Things that would embarrass most girls--such as, say, painting your whole body gold and posing like a statue in front of the Mariott Marquis in New York City--don't even phase Rachel. While her parents' idea of being socially conscious is presenting the appropriate image, hers is being conscious of others. She's proactive and outgoing, involving herself in plenty of volunteer organizations. She's also very environmentally aware, especially after being present at the god Pan's death, and her father's job makes her feel ashamed.

Most importantly, Rachel is a clear-sighted mortal. Ever since she was little, she's been able to see through the Mist to the true forms of the monstrous otherworldly beings that hide themselves from most humans. She's used to not being believed, and has learned to keep what she sees to herself around those she knows she can't confide in, though. It isolated and frightened her, but even so, it's drawn her to the unknown.

But it's more than a supernatural ability; Rachel is also a clear-sighted person. She's good at looking straight through to the heart of an issue. Probably because of that, she's also very straightforward. For a budding mystic, Rachel is a very down-to-earth girl. She's good at keeping her head in danger and isn't afraid to put her life on the line for her friends. She doesn't care how odd someone is so long as they're a good person, and is more likely to shrug off weirdness than be bothered by it.

Now that she's become the Oracle of Delphi, Rachel has finally found someplace she fits in. Camp Half-Blood is full of demigods, who are all weirdos in some way, and they've accepted their new Oracle, who's always stuck out like a sore thumb anyway. Being the Oracle is Rachel's destiny, and she is absolutely and completely devoted to her duty and all it entails--which means, yes, that she keeps herself out of romantic entanglements.

Abilities:
Rachel Elizabeth Dare is a clear-sighted mortal, which means, despite being of no divine parentage, she has the ability to see through the magical Mist that obscures the supernatural from mortal eyes. While this ability usually fades with age, in Rachel it is permanent since she's taken up the role of Oracle. Magical methods of confusion, from disguises to illusions, don't work on her. She can see through them.

As the host for the Oracle of Delphi, Rachel has the ability to tell the future--or, in her words, "more like the future mugs [her] from time to time." This usually only happens when someone asks her a prophetic question, and Rachel never remembers what she says. The Oracle's spirit also gives Rachel a sort of sixth sense for the truth that functions like some kind of intuition. Sometimes she has visions of both the past and the future. Coincidentally, Rachel is also a very talented artist, and tends to sketch or paint her visions. Being the Oracle's vessel also means that Rachel is potential channel for the gods to speak to mortals through.
