Terrifying Snow Odyssey Mach 4.1: Perisher Snow weekend part 2

So Wonderboyf made a pretty good recovery. So he slept a bunch of Saturday and had an early night, but it paid off because he was a functional human on Sunday. So bright and early, we packed everything into his little car and headed up the mountain for the last time. We hit the snow at about 9.30am and I decided to skip having a lesson as we'd decided to buy just half day lift tickets instead of full day tickets and I really wanted to spend time on the snow with Wonderboyf.

We were at the snow as a part of a birthday weekend for Wonderboyf's brother's birthday, but some other friends were there with their work mates (also with a number of birthdays) so while our group hit the terrain parks, Wonderboyf and I hit the slopes with the other group and really went exploring the mountain. We headed to Blue Cow and Guthega and had a bunch of fun on traverses across the mountain and down some really fun and rather quiet slopes. The snow was really wet and slushy, kind of like really heavy powder with icy bits in the shade and under the slush. I was challenging but really quite fun.

I must have had my speed boots on as I did seem to be zooming a whole lot faster than on any other trip. It did help that there were less people on the slopes we were on, and it was a bright and sunny day so I had no issues with being able to see the conditions ahead of me easily. The feet were a bit tingly and there was some tender arches but not nearly as bad as they were at Treble Cone.

Our lift tickets were only valid till 1pm so we did have to head back to Front Valley for lunch and to make our way home. We roared down Front Valley and decided we had less than 10 mins left, how many runs could we squeeze in in that time? Wonderboyf was optimistic at getting 2 more in, but in the end we managed one more and had found the best and quietest bit of the slope to enjoy. We had lunch with the work friends and then had to make a move home.

While we were a bit sad to leave and were really itching to get another couple of runs in, we knew it was in our best interest to get on the road early. By the time we'd got ourselves sorted, we were on the road at 2pm and stopped in Cooma for about an hour while Wonderboyf looked at snowboard gear which was on sale. Eventually he bought a new pair of boots, had them heat fitted (such a great technology!) and we were back on the road again. At 7pm when we were still on the road but relatively close to home, I was really happy we'd left when we did. We got home to Wonderboyf's at about 9pm and relished in a hot shower after a really long day.

It was a welcome relief to hit the hay before 11pm, but even now I'm in my bed and thinking about another early night tonight. It was a real positive to have such fun and such a good time on the snow this weekend. The boots are feeling better every time I wear them (day 7 of 10 for breaking them in, so close!) and I've even entertained the thought of buying my own skis... just not sure how soon that would be though.

But that's it for this snow season. We toyed with the idea of heading to Japan for a cheeky New Year's snow trip but that's fallen off the cards now. Maybe another time. Wonderboyf was talking about Canada next year though...

That's it for the Terrifying Snow Odyssey. What's next?

snow, ski, terrifying snow odyssey, skiing
