*insert excuses explaining my absence from the blogging world here*
I know, I'm not nearly as interesting now that I have Wonderboyf... or maybe I am but I don't have the time to tell you about it?
Anyway, one thing I've been meaning to post as a dating post has finally irked me enough to remember to post it now! Social Network Advertising.
So, when Wonderboyf and I made it official, aka listed ourselves as 'in a relationship' on facebook, a rather interesting phenomenon occurred...
Instantly the ads on facebook changed - they consisted of engagement ring offers, wedding dresses, honeymoon deals and no end of suBtle suggestions that my new beau might in fact want to pop the question rather soon - or was it perhaps assuming that I was expecting a proposal and it was just encouraging me to nudge my beau just as suBtley.
Now, Wonderboyf had rather a different experience. For one day he had a random mix of ads, but that swiftly passed and made way for, you guessed it, online dating ads. We thought it was odd, slightly amusing but mostly creepy that that assumption was made and haven't really discussed it much since.
I realised over the weekend, and commented to Wonderboyf, that we have been together for just over 6 months (I was actually able to give 6 months and 4 days as the time - but that's easy when you know the date of your first date and the current day's date). A small milestone that we shrugged off. Facebook clearly had other thoughts about how to mark such a momentous occasion.
Tonight, I noticed my first online dating ad on my facebook for eHarmony. And even worse, they didn't even feature a cute guy, some older guy who looked like he should be friends with my Dad (no offense Dad). Maybe the algorithms noticed Wonderboyf's birthday is this Friday and that he's turning *gasp* 4 years older than me and maybe I wanted to trade up a model (or is it down when you choose an older model?). Not likely!
