Notes and a Meme

Jan 07, 2009 11:47

My SPN/SGA crossover is now at 1500 words, but I swear it's not going to be epic. Just a one-shot. THERE WILL BE NO 'VERSE. I'm really enjoying writing Shep, though, which is funny, since I've never ever done it before. And wee!Sam is adorable, of course.

I have been thinking about doing Big Bang. More on that later.

I am not worried about LJ going under. I don't think you should be either. ::spread waves of calmness like an office-bound Yoda::

The rumor cake is a lie. A LIE I SAY.

They installed new energy-efficient showerhead and faucets in my apartment, and they're AWESOME. Took a long time to get my hair wet enough to wash, though. I have a lot of hair.

And a meme!

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, write an entry with 16 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 16 people to be tagged.

1. I was homeschooled kindergarten through high school graduation, and I loved it. By high school I was pretty much teaching myself from the textbooks my parents bought, and I always finished quickly, so I had plenty of time to read and write and goof around. It was awesome. And I still got 1410 on my SATs.

2. The proudest moment of my adolescence was when I was named "Author of the Year" at swstory.com, a small Star Wars fanfic community that I wrote a lot for when I was fifteen and sixteen. It seems to have vanished now, which is sad.

3. The first video editing I ever did was in college. In my American Politics class we were split into groups and had to come up with some sort of creative way to illustrate something about that week's topic, and my group chose to do a video set to "I'm Just a Bill" from Schoolhouse Rock. I ended up taking charge, sort of, even though I hate doing that, and I filmed everyone else doing things like pretending to fight like Congress, slapping a veto on a bill, and standing in a hallway, and then put the footage together in the Mac lab. I'm sorry that the video seems to be lost now. Too bad it was before the days of YouTube.

4. I'm a very tactile person, by which I mean that I love textures and playing with things in my fingers. As a kid it was modeling clay--I never really tried to make anything, just squished it around in my hands. In college I would take silly putty to class and play with it while taking notes. On my desk at work is a bundle of fake flowers tied with a ribbon, and sometimes while I'm proofing I'll reach out and rub the ribbon between my fingers, over and over. This also may contribute to why I love my pet mice so much...they're so very SOFT.

5. I love the tastes of raspberries and peaches. They're probably my favorite fruits.

6. I love to collect D&D dice. I have a colorful little string bag which I crocheted myself, making up the pattern as I went, and it's FULL of little polyhedral beauties. I always get some shade of green, purple, or blue, sometimes with gold or silver highlights.

7. Despite my shyness, I love being in skits and plays, and I truly enjoy acting. I only got to be in one play in college, "Charlie's Aunt," but I adored the experience. I'll also do skits with my siblings for my church, and I've written a bunch, including full-length programs for Christmas and Easter, choosing the songs and everything.

8. I always thought that I wasn't a funny person, but in recent years this has changed. I make people laugh quite often, now, and it's always a joy. Always thought I couldn't write anything funny, either, but now I've written entire novellas full of snark from Jack and Dean, so I guess I can.

9. My eyes are green-brown hazel, just like Sam and Dean's, but I don't think they're as pretty. They just look kinda dirty yellow, I think.

10. Speaking of, I have a condition called keratoconus in both of my eyes. My left eye is pretty much useless and has been for years--I only see a blur through it, even with glasses, and nothing can correct it. My right eye might be heading the same way, but there's no way to know for sure. The only real solution is cornea transplants, if it comes to that. It might not. I freaked out about this a lot when it was discovered in my right eye (it's been in my left since I was fourteen), but I'm okay with it now. It's just life. Going blind would really, really suck, though.

11. I sometimes write my own songs for piano and guitar, especially for friends. I'd like to get a nice microphone so I can record them and share them with you guys. I also love to improvise jazzy/blues type things on the piano.

12. I'm not girly, but I'm not a tomboy either. I never wear makeup and hardly ever do anything with my hair, but I always wear a skirt. I just find them more comfortable. Even when it's cold out.

13. When I moved away from home I took a cardigan of my dad's with me, and I wear it all the time. Wearing it right now, in fact.

14. I've never been in love, though I've been deeply in like, and I've wondered what it's like to be in love. I don't know if it will ever happen to me. I'd be okay if it didn't, though I've often longed for someone to share my life with.

15. I prefer hymns to the "praise" music that a lot of people sing these days. Too much if it is shallow and repetitive, though there are exceptions.

16. As mentioned, I crochet. I taught myself one summer during college, just because I was bored. I also sometimes attempt to sketch or do charcoal work, but I'm too lazy to take the effort to get really good at it, and I have lots of other things to occupy myself with.

I'm not going to tag anybody, but if you haven't done it, you should.
