AW. I just...we all know my Castiel...thing. You know, the big tin hat with his name on it. And this fic just makes me so very happy. I love the way you've written his conversation with Dean, like they're each having a different conversation, but eventually they manage to get their points across. And I love the idea of choice and freewill. And, of course, this:
Angels are not entirely choiceless, but should we choose to refuse an order, we are no longer what we are, but something dark and twisted, with yellow eyes.

::claps:: YES! That's just what I was trying to do. Castiel has this way of responding to emotions and intentions instead of actual words, so it sounds like he's having this completely other conversation when he's really just trying to respond to what seems to him to be more important. Well, that's how I see it, anyway.

This is a great portrayal of Castiel--very true to that his balance of compassion with fearful duty and a lack of comprehension of humans. Well of Dean, anyway. (And the beginning--Dean's dreams of his end--are wonderful too.)

Thank you! I'm so delighted that the characterization seems right to you. Castiel is quite a challenge, so I'm glad I captured him.

And Dean's dreams, yeah... In the headspace he's in right now, it seemed right to me that he would be having these morbid daydreams.
