Person of Interest Blather

So I feel the need to blather about the last two episodes of Person of Interest. It will make no sense if you don't watch the show, oh and also, MASSSSSSIIIIIVVVVEEE SPOILER ALERT. But it bruised me and upset me and I need to rant about it to the white blank wall of the internet, so here it is.

Person of Interest Season 3 Episodes 9 and 10 )

Fusco is my second favorite character (Bear the Dog is first!) and he was awesome those last couple of episodes. He's just a regular guy, not a hero at heart like Carter or even Reese, but just a morally ambiguous guy who makes the deliberate choice to do good. (Possibly so he can be a better dad for his son, which d'awww! Parents going the extra mile for their kids is like kryptonite for me. I cheered when Carter refused to let Taylor's dad see him until he got mental help in her flashback earlier too. Protective parents for the win!)

As for the kiss between Carter and Reese though, that wasn't actually scripted by the writers. The actors themselves felt it should happen, that it was the natural move to make at that high-tension moment. Though they claimed it was a kiss of friendship, more like a benediction, than romantic in nature. I tend to prefer their interpretation of it. I never saw any kind of subtext between those characters the entire show, although I know there are plenty of fans who ship them. (Besides, isn't Reese kind of dating Zoe?) Anyway, even watching the episode without spoilers I viewed the kiss a sweet gesture, sort of a in-case-this-it goodbye.

Honestly, though, I was surprised as hell Carter was the one killed off. I totally figured it'd be Reese. He'd become pretty much superfluous now with younger and more fit Shaw to fill in for his role. Also, the actor is getting older. He's just not able to pull off the wicked action scenes like he used to. At some point, even spies and assassins have to retire!

Thanks for this. Knowing that the kiss was a choice by the actors actually does make me feel better about that whole thing.

I watched the whole thing without any spoilers at all--I don't watch TV, just episodes on the internet, so I don't see promos, nor do I seek out news articles about my shows. So i had no idea what I was in for when I sat down one evening to watch a few episodes of one of my favorite shows, and yeah, it kind of shattered me. I definitely got the feeling that SOMEBODY was going to die, and then when it ended with John arrested and everyone safe, I heaved a big sigh of relief. And then Carter. :( She was so badass through that whole HR arc, and though she managed to take them all out, I hate that it required her sacrifice, as well. After a few days to live with it I'm feeling a bit more copacetic, but I'm still going to miss her so, so much.
