There are a lot of reasons to hate the live-action Last Airbender movie, not least of which being the switcheroo of brown heroes and pale villain to pale heroes and brown ( Read more... )

Yeah, that part in the movie annoyed me. But, as much as I hate to defend that absolutely terrible movie, from my point of view, a lot of what the skipped over was because it's hard to get everything in an entire season into one movie. That isn't the reason I hate the movie. I hate the movie, and I can never say this enough, because you can't just go and change the way half of the main words of the story are prounounced, not if what you're adapting is a show that has been saying these exact same words over and over again, at least once an episode (Avatar, Aang, Sokka? ALL WORDS IN THE OPENING, GOSH DARNIT.) I don't know who the blame of that goes to, but I hope the get oodles of papercuts from all the hate mail they recieve. (Lolol, such a serious threat, no? But death threats are a bit harsh, or I would have said something much worse ( ... )

Huh. I just had a thought. Maybe looking at the movie as if it was sort of a Water Tribe version of that play in I-forgot-which-episode will make it sliiiiiiightly more bearable. Slightly. Not much. At least the got the position of the scar right (I still don't like it because it's barely noticable, but the side of the face is right.).

Oh, I loved the Ember Island Players. ;) So much meta commentary. And yeah, Sokka said it best, "But the effects were decent."

Prophetic, they were.

Ooooooh, my uncle and his friends were really sad about the lack of cabbage man. That was really a sad thing to miss.

As to the personality change, the one that stood out to me was Zuko. Yes, he had outbursts, but he was far more boohoo-I-wanna-go-home-and-I-want-my-daddy-to-love-me then he was in the series. I mean, as a Zuko fangirl I was kinda aww-ing every time he had that sad face on, or when he was talking to himself/Aang. Actually, I would have really enjoyed if they somehow had Dante Basco play Zuko. Sure, he's old, but then we could have had Zuko!voice.

Huh, for some reason the picture changed. That's....weird. Anyways, he did? I didn't really pay attention to any news about the movie. That would have been cool. I might have even enjoyed the movie, despite the bad stuff.

Oh goodness. I inspired myself to look him up, and I found this song, and I find it absolutely hilarious because I can't help but imagine Zuko singing it xD THis happened last time I found a video of Dante singing too.

maychorian, I'm so sorry to be spamming your comments with this crack xD

Gah, the pronunciation is so annoying, too. I mean, yeah, Iroh is pronounce ee-roh in Japanese pronunciation. But not in Chinese. It's like...he didn't do any research whatsoever or talk to the original creators or ANYTHING, just did what he wanted and gah, got it ALL wrong. Perfectly valid reason for the disliking the movie, though I think the racism and sexism take slight precedence. ;)
