So, I started with my new physical rehab guy here in Hot Springs last monday.
I'll have 2 sessions a week.
He was looking at the xrays of my shoulder and was sort of chuckling at how bad it was.
He says about a 3rd of my clavicle broke completely off, rotated about 90 degrees, then healed back connected that way.
And, one of the fractures in my scapula goes directly through the middle of the socket, and it appears that that piece of my scapula moved half an inch down or somesuch, then healed up there.
So, basically no real socket for the joint of my humerus to 'fit' into. It's mostly being held up by the muscles of my rotator cup. Now remember, I've got a muscle in my rotator cuff that simply doesnt work anymore due to nerve damage, and another muscle that sorta connects my shoulder together is damaged the same way. To top it off, the muscles that DO work are at about 1/3rd the strength they used to be because of nearly 2 months of inactivity, and the loss of maybe 25 or 30lbs of muscle from the 'lets forget to feed the guy in the coma for a week' session I had while in the ICU.
So the phys rehab guy has me working on strengthening the muscles that do work in that arm.
Let me tell you, phys rehab for bad damage hurts like a bitch.
I don't like taking drugs, but I'm back up to tylenol with codiene at least 3 times a day to deal with it.
On the bright side, I do have, all things considered, reasonable range with that shoulder. Since I can't lift it away from my body, the rehab guy has to lift it away to stretch it out, but the range is about 50% of normal, which as I said, is good, all things considered.
Anyway, things are going pretty well, my neck is getting better, and I'm trying to stay active as possible.
Have fun, people.
