Last week I was only able to make it to the beginner 2 class, but the combo we did at the end was:
Egyptian walk forward w/snake arms, 4 counts; Three-point turn, hip drop w/saucy arms, three point turn in other direction, hip drop, saucy arms; Chasse forward w/pretty arms & wrists back & forth, 2 or 4 counts; into Three point turn to right, shoulder shimmy w/height change, ditto to the left.
Then about 30 seconds of improv each; and y'know, it's amazing -- in the past six weeks, I've been working on the Jillina choreography every couple of days, with varying degrees of success mostly, and over the past two weeks I've suddenly gotten to the point where I can dance it. Then in class on Saturday, she had us do the combination across the floor one by one, and then each of us had the 30 seconds improv time at the very end. I was kinda nervous, no idea what to do -- but suddenly, when I got up there, it was....easy? I wasn't doing anything special, but the moves were flowing finally, and I was able to combine them better. The difference intensive practice of a pre-choreographed, rote routine can make in improving your improvising skills....who knew? :)
I'm sorely coveting either a Suzanna Del Vecchio DVD, or Jillina Level II, or Katia's Oriental Arms right now, and none of them available on Netflix.....greedy for more magical choreography studies :)
