To 9s

I feel like I should stand up for the 9s. Don't get me wrong, I am not necessarily their biggest fan as far as far as the day-to-day living is concerned (and I am surrounded by enough), but it would be unfair not to admit that iNtuitive 9w1s often possess a linguistic gift. The particular form that seems to be their trademark is lyrical prose. Nobody else seems to be able (or inclined) to produce something as light, poetic, flowing, almost transparent, infused with a sad, but ultimately optimistic, spirit. There is an immediacy, an unpretentiousness, a lack of artifice. Unfortunately, I can't think of any English-language examples (would anyone like to make suggestions?), but the best example of a Russian writer would definitely be Vadim Shefner, a clear INFP 9. I was never a fan of his poetry, as opposed to the prose. It's not a name known to every Russian, even, but if you ever get a chance to read him - do. I think what I have seen in translation were The Fairy Tales for Adults, which are not my favourites. He did, however, virtually invent a new genre with them. He's also a 9 who managed to tackle the large literary form without getting bogged down in it (which 9s seem to be somewhat prone to).

And, of course, Bulat Okudzhava, the poet, musician and writer, my love since childhood, is a 9w1. He's definitely more gifted as a poet than as a prose writer, but his autobiographical stories are wonderful.

I have long wondered what it is about their world-view and the creative expression attracts. There is a sensation of tuning into the frequency, a resonance. The 9 universe is ultimately kind, however sad and complex. A respite from the dark vistas which open and the gaping black holes threatening from every direction. Is there a something in each of us that still wants to believe in fairy tales?
