What's up with finding the research too hard? Isn't anyone just bored out of their wits, basically, and daunted by the more hands-on, physical aspects of it? Not because they are too incomprehensible, but because they require applying yourself. Actually rolling up your sleeves and getting into it. Normally, I just reason things out in my head and that's as far as it goes. Everything else does not come naturally. But it does not cut it, even in the world of research. You are expected to do the dirty work yourself - well, we, PhD students, are certainly expected to. No technicians in our budget. What would I not give for a cooperative partnership with a good-with-their-hands, organised and conscientious practical worker! We would achieve so much together. The way it is right now, bright ideas are likely to remain bright ideas. Something is broken in the whole set-up.
