I'm sort of aware at this point that I'm tireder than most people. I kind of sat up at some point in August or so and went, "Wait, most people don't spend all day feeling exhausted and yawning every five minutes, do they?"
So I went to the doctor, found out my thyroid and everything else is fine, except my vitamin D was low, so I did three months of the extra-strength prescription vitamin D and... no change. I'm still taking OTC supplements, but I haven't had another blood test yet, so who knows if that's even the problem.
And then I was in the elevator the other day with some other lady, and I yawned twice during the trip and she commented on it (like, "You must be really tired!") and HEY, THANKS FOR KEEPING TRACK but it sort of reminded me? So now I'm kind of keeping a sleep journal, and apparently I wake up a lot during the night. And my therapist's suggested a light box and an actualfax SLEEP STUDY, in that order, if the light box thing doesn't work, to see if I actually, like, stop breathing at night or something relevant and alarming like that.
So before that happens, does anyone have any recommendations for, I don't know, a good light box? I poked around on Amazon, and it looks like the only one under $100 kinda spews out ozone-- I'm sorry, "negative ions." (Incidentally, I would like Dr. Ben Goldacre's opinion on that plz.) Any suggestions on what to look for and/or avoid?
I've gotten so used to just being tired for so long that it's just now dawning on me how much it's fucking with my life. Because it just makes everything feel so hard. Even things like, I don't know, making plans or keeping up with what my friends are doing takes so much extra effort. I genuinely had this thought process earlier this evening: I should email [person] and find out about [relevant thing]! Never mind, I'm too tired to deal with it. And that's sort of my answer to a lot. And, like, there's this karate place that is totally walking distance from my house, and I would love to do karate again, but there is no way I'm up for any after-work extracurriculars, especially physical ones. I mean, two nights out of the past three I've fallen asleep before 9.
And before anyone asks, I had the same problem in the summer, it's just worse now. It's like as soon as it gets dark my body just completely shuts down.
Soooo. This got a bit more complainy than I intended. Mainly I'm here to ask for light box recs. And if anyone's done a sleep study before, how did that go for you?
