a day in the life of me
today is yet another holiday in germany, so i m bored once again so to help with that, i decided to write about a typical day for me.
i get up at like 530, which sounds crazy and but now i m used to it, which is far worse than actually getting up. then i have breakfast and theres always the news on. so i watch them, so now i m all informed. then i get my stuff and my father and i drive to herne (what an ugly name huh??? its like a disease) where my father works. usually we dont talk on the way lol. well he does but i just give like partial syllable answers like ugh huh. but its still a nice drive cuz you drive over a huge bridge and you have an awsome view. when we get to herne, i get my car which we leave by his office and then i drive to the construction site which is by hamm. i always listen to like the same cd so i now when i get to a certain spot, the same music will be on everyday so now when i hear a song, i ll think that i m in dortmund or something. on the way to hamm, theres this really long construction site which drives me crazy cuz its like 7km and in germany when they work on one side of the highway, they ll sometimes put both directions on the other so the lanes are really narrow. so i always stay on the right cuz thats where the trucks drive and so that lane is a little wider. after that theres more driving, but its kinda interesting cuz there are some parts with 3 lanes and others with 2, so ppl drive different. like on the two lane parts, the right lane will be going 90km/h (cuz trucks here cant go faster than 90) and the left lane will be going anywhere from 100 to like 150. if there are three lanes it will be the same as the two lane except in the third lane there are ppl going like 200. which is like really weird cuz when you go 150 and a car like swooshes by you you are like, huh? and then when i get to our site, i m too scared to drive through the construction site. cuz at the beginning you could drive on it but then thats already scary, but then you also gotta drive trhough the site and now they are taking out part of the old road so its only like twice one lane but cuz one is on the road and one is on the gravel you cant switch cuz its like 30cm in between. so i m scared to drive through there, well and theres a lot of hills and narrow parts and lots of trucks and other machinery. well the point being, i gotta drive aroudn that too. so first on the narrow highway thingy and then i get off at the next exit and drive all the way back on some side roads. at first there were like 2 more constrcution sites on the way, but now one is finished.
then i fianlly get to work. the offices are in portables and theres only like 3 ppl who work in the portable i m in. like theres more ppl but i never see them cuz they are always outside or in another portable. well usually im still like half asleep when i get there, which is usually around 8, so i sit in the room where my stuff is and sorta wake up. cuz evryone else already got there at like 6, so when i get there, they have a break already. so then i work on some list with all the receipts which lately has been a pain cuz they get like 40 each day. before it was only like 10. then i usually sit there til someone else gives me something to do. oh and i m in the office with the surveyor, markus. usually in the morning im sorta not in the talking mood so its kinda boring. but now that its been hot we usually go outside in the mornings so i wake up. so before going outside i gotta change my shoes, and i finally got my own safety shoes which actually fit cuz before i had my fathers. and then i also got a vest but its so big, that another guy, christian, calls it a dress. then we carry the binders with the maps we never look at anyway into the car and the clipboard and walky talkies and so on. and then we pick up the guy who has to carry the reflector which is used to focus the actually surveying instrument on something. then when we get to the site, the reflector guy, davut, takes out the stuff which markus like never does. even though that would speed things up and then i get annoyed cuz tis going so slow so i help. and then they figure out the location of where the instrument is and theeeeeeeeennnnnnnn they actually start measuring stuff. mostly they are figuring out how much gravel needs to be put in the different locations. so i mostly daydream or watch the cars go by. but i acutally have a job now, write down part of the results. yay. lol. but i still love it cuz its so relaxing and i love being outside. but i think i ll become a vegetarian cuz theres a lot of trucks with pigs going by and i feel like so disgusted. like you totally know they are gonne be sausages or soemthing soon and also they are kinda ugly. so then after that we pack the stuff up and then we drive back to the offfices. then markus usually makes lunch. but he uses like sooooooooooo much salt. i ll totally die of high blood pressure cuz of those lunches. and lunch is always fun cuz the ppl have such a good sense of humor. but its so funny cuz they wont like swear or anything when i m there, but when i m in the other room they will. but the walls are really thin so you can hear it. or they ll start saying something like shhh and then stop and give me a look. or the use sign language and figure i wont see it. um. yeah not working but at least its nice they try. anyway most of the convo during lunch is making fun of each other. which like cracks me up cuz they like poke each other sometimes and stuff like that. then i do that dishes cuz i really dont wanna cook plus its not liek i have too much else to do. then after lunch i usually work on some data. before it actually had to do with the highway but now i m supposed to write something that will comparre the results for the betting they do on the soccer games. its sorta working. cuz its with basic but i never used it before. so i gotta learn it while i do it. and now its pretty much working except this one guy always gets a point extra which is relaly starting to piss me off. i should check if someone changed the formula that i put for him. anyway, then in the afternoons its always amusing cuz its only like 2 hrs from when we have lunch til i go home. and ppl are in a good mood then. and the last couple of days i was woking on that soccer thing so ppl kept asking if i was done, but i had no idea how to do it, so i wasnt done. but its funny cuz they take it so serious so they ll stand there for like 15min and compare what everyone else guessed.
then i drive back to herne. and its always sad cuz the afternoons are so much fun that i dont wanna leave. but then i listen to music and sing hehe. hope there is no mike in the car. and then there is a part of the road which is sorta bumpy. well i guess it wouldnt be if you drive at 100 but if you go like 160 its liek a lot of speed bumps. and then theres one part where it feels liek you are flying. which is kidna scary so now i go slower there. not taht i go 160 all the time (only when i m passing someone, mama, keine sorge ich fahre vorsichtig!!!). oh but driving on the highway motivated me to learn how to drive standard cuz its a pain to accelerate with an automatic and i can hardly ever pass someone cuz if ppl go 120 on the centre lane and the others like 180 on the left lane, you dont have enough time to pass the car in front of you with an automatic. well at least not the one i have. its takes forever for it to change gears. well anyway, when i get to herne, i go into my fathers office and then we leave. back in mettmann we have dinner and then do random stuff liek watch soccer. and if i ever get really bored again, i ll talk about the soccer craziness here.
