Calling All 3d Masters

I’ve been working like mad on my 3d engine. I’ve found that about 80% of the game companies like to see a game demo for programming positions. So, in hopes to broaden my job search I’m trying to speed up my game development.

I had originally wanted to create a mock final fantasy battle engine, but there are a number of issues that will make that too time consuming for my game demo. I plan on continuing my research of this battle engine, but in the meantime I’m going to start smaller and develop a Star Fox style space fighter game. I’ve got about 70% of the code finished for this game. The main purpose of this demo is to show off my skills at OOP, 3d manipulation, and game logic programming. So the content and type of game is not a huge issue.

Check out the fighter I made yesterday. The textures aren’t finished, but it will suffice for now. It’s already UV mapped if anyone would like to finish the textures for me.

What I need is things for my space fighter to shoot. So, if you 3d guys have some free time, you could model out enemy ships, asteroids, and space doodads. Then I can stick your name is the credits of my game demo. I plan on sending it out to tons of game companies as soon as I finish, so that way you could get your name out there with little effort and get to see your creations in a game (which is very cool and fun).

Here are the specs.

You can model it out in any program (3d max, Lightwave, Maya) that can export to DXF of OBJ. I don’t want you to texture it, unless you can UV map and texture in Maya. No animated meshes. Limit the poly count to 100 poly for small fighters (things that I can put swarms of on the screen, really the lower poly count the better for swarm type objects), and up to around 300 polys for larger ships. But, I really don’t have an upper limit on the poly count. I don’t expect this to tax any system and I want the whole game to stay under 5mb. So if you come up with something cool that needs more than 300 polys just let me know. As for as the look and feel, I really don’t care. I think it would be better to just leave it open ended and let you have fun with it. Just don’t make something that over shadows the main good guy fighter! Ha.

If you are interested let me know. I know what it’s like to be in college with a million projects. I expect nothing, no pressure. I’m grateful for anything you can do.
