Hateboys -- so much time wasted

Mar 05, 2012 14:16

I find it interesting that after 13 long years of spewing hate wherever they can, and signing petitions demanding that Lucas do their bidding, and whining about how the prequels would have been so much better if Peter Jackson had made them, and worshipping the Red Letter Media moron (while at the same time, calling fans of the prequels "Lucas-worshippers"), and moaning about how LOTR/"The Matrix"/"Harry Potter"/"Serenity"/Insert Movie or Movie Series is SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE PREQUELS (but still spending all their time on the "inferior" prequels), and digging up sour-grapes interviews by the "real talent and genius behind ANH and ESB" (yeah, in his dreams) Gary Kurtz, and proclaiming that they will "steer as many people away from the prequels as they can," and actually stooping so low as to harass kids when they see them buying Jar Jar toys or other prequel items in stores, and generally being hateful, rude, ignorant, self-important pains in the butt...

...SW still insists on remaining popular. The supposedly "universally reviled" TPM is doing quite well in its 3-D release, and audiences like it. The Blu-Ray saga set, with its latest round of supposedly "universally reviled" changes, sold spectacularly. That's to say nothing of the huge success that the 2004 OT DVD set, with its supposedly "universally reviled" changes, enjoyed, or the success each prequel enjoyed on the big screen and then on DVD.

So, all the haters' efforts have been wasted. People like the prequels. People like or at least don't mind the changes to the OT, if they even notice them in the first place. Sure, the press may put forward the haters as representing all of SW fandom, and ignore the box office haul of TPM: 3-D or, if reporting about it, try to downplay it. Sure, the press presents the haters' opinions as fact and never checks into the veracity of their claims, and also never questions just why these people are so obsessed with the prequels if they hate them so very much.

But it hasn't made one damn bit of difference. SW, including the prequels, continues to be successful. The haters' poison has not sunk in. They haven't moved mountains. At most, they've moved a grain of sand on an anthill.

So no wonder they're so nasty...they are, and always have been, a small but disproportionately loud group of embittered malcontents who not only have nothing better to do than focus on movies they hate, but whose best efforts to hurt said movies' success have, as I stated in another thread, amounted to spitting in the wind.

Maybe they should go around wearing buttons that say, "Kiss me...I'm irrelevant."
