"Sex and the City 2" sets the box office on fire...NOT

Hey, lazypadawan, I thought you might get at least a mild kick out of the news that Sex and the City 2, which industry "experts" had been foreseeing as a blockbuster, placed third on the box office charts in its opening weekend. Not too promising, especially considering it was a holiday weekend, which marks the unofficial beginning of summer (the official beginning is June 21st).

Perhaps the wretched reviews the movie garnered had an influence on filmgoers, but I think it's more likely that, aside from some SATC die-hards, filmgoers are simply tired of the Fatuous Foursome. I have no desire to see the movie, and I actually enjoyed SATC for the most part when it was on the tube. I don't even have much desire to rent it when it comes out on DVD, although I did rent the first SATC movie and thought it wasn't too bad...it, like the TV show, was basically mindless fluff with an occasional bon mot.

Myself, I think the SATC crew should've quit while it was ahead: that is, when the series ended on the tube, it should have ended, period. Hopefully the second flick's failure to reach No. 1, or even No. 2, at the box office on its opening weekend will finally drive that home for TPTB who insist on continuing to milk their dying cash cow, and worse, trying to palm it off as some kind of feminist statement. I'm a feminist and I find that quite insulting.
