Movie Rec: Warrior

Mar 20, 2012 00:44

I know I've been horribly absent lately and may well have missed mention of this movie on your own pages at any given point in the last 6 months so I'm probably late to the party. But, in case some of you are as well, I must highly, highly, highly recommend Warrior, starring Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte.

I'm returning the favor as you posted to my LJ and I just had to visit yours and lo, a post about WARRIOR! :)

(What's even more intriguing is that you also adore Jensen Ackles, he who was once my NUMBER ONE and now hovers in the fifth slot of my LIST.)

Anyhoo, I absolutely agree with all the good things you say about WARRIOR. It's a movie I absolutely recommend to anyone and everyone. I fell in love with Tom Hardy after this movie (even though I'd seen him here and there since STAR TREK: NEMESIS). I love how this movie makes me cry a little and laugh a little. It totally takes your heart and squeezes to remind you that you're alive.

Let's keep sharing that love! :D

Lovely to see you here! I just couldn't keep my mouth shut about Warrior LOL. Alas, I've been so absent lately, I don't think as many people read my entries as they used to so this message is falling on mostly deaf ears. I'm amazed the SPN community wasn't raving about Warrior though and I so want to spread the word ( ... )

I think the studio did a poor job of marketing Warrior. How could such an excellent movie not catch my attention until it was out on blu-ray?! I will say that I did watch it because of Tom Hardy but I wasn't rightly in love with him until after watching the movie ( ... )

Something went wrong with the marketing. Maybe people had already seen The Fighter and assumed this was a band-wagon movie and would therefore be inferior. It wasn't AT ALL IMO.

I believe the brothers became a family again. I like to imagine Tommy being the wonderful uncle to his nieces and maybe, just maybe finding someone of his own. Awwww. :)

Awww, me too! Have you read any Warrior fic? I found one that creates a lovely, hopeful future for the family. It's here if you want to check it out. I see Tommy becoming an awesome uncle and he and Brendan becoming friends as well as brothers. ::melts:: LOL

Joe Manganiello (he of True Blood)
Charles Mesure (currently on Desperate Housewives)

I haven't seen The Fighter but I have read opinions that Warrior is the "Rocky" of MMA. I think it's better than that!

I haven't read any Warrior fic. I'll have to check out that link! :)

Joe is MAGNIFICENT. I love that he's tall. Mmmmm!... I met Charles Mesure at a Xena convention eight years ago and was duly impressed. I got into him again when he arrived on V. Suddenly I had to watch as much of him as I could and I found his Kiwi/Aussie work online. He's delicious... Chris H. made me cry in Star Trek, so yeah, that's why he's in the top 5. Oh, and he's tall!

JDM and Chris Evans are in my bottom five of my Top 10:

Chris Pine
Karl Urban
Jeffrey Dean Morgan
Ryan Gosling
Chris Evans

Karl and Ryan are mostly there because I've loved them since their Xena/Herc and Young Herc days (respectively). Chris Pine plays a wonderful Captain Kirk and actually made me care about him. JDM, well, don't have to explain that one to you I'm sure. Or Chris E.

See what happens when I talk about the fellas? I just go on and on and on. LOL!

Love that pic of you and Charles!

I enjoyed The Fighter but had some problems with it too. It felt a little disrespectful to me in how it treated Micky Ward's family of colorful characters. I don't feel that way at all about any of the characters in Warrior. My husband is a fight fan and thanks to osmosis I've learned to appreciate fighting (boxing and MMA) and can hold my own quite well with the guys when conversations turn to fighters. Osmosis has nothing to do with my love and admiration for Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti though, whose trilogy of fights will be the basis of The Fighter's sequel if Mr. Wahlburg finally gets it off the ground. *That* movie worries me because if it doesn't treat their friendship and bromance the way it should, it'll break my heart. Put it this way, I genuinely feel that the final Gatti/Ward fight played a part in inspiring The Warrior. That you could cheer for both of them and not want either to lose. Watching their last round and the fight's conclusion had me nearly as choked up as I was for Tommy & ( ... )

Charles is a damn fine man. I didn't really care either way for him before I met him but wow, when he was on stage doing the Q & A for the convention, I was hooked. He has this rich, deep voice and up close, those blue eyes are so lovely. I just don't know what took me so long to really love him. LOL! Maybe it was his lack of work here in the US ( ... )

but after Crazy, Stupid, Love, I can totally see it now. Rarr!

I know! That "PhotoShop" line of Emma Stone's after he takes his shirt off for her was just priceless. And so very true ;)

Just watched Tinker Tailor tonight. Tom was magnificent. Not recalling the character from the Alec Guiness version I watched decades ago, I certainly didn't expect such an emotional performance in the midst of all that stoic, stiff upper lipping. He managed to melt me again. Siiiiiigh ♥

I need to watch that movie again. All those lovely British gents! I adore Colin Firth (remnants from his Pride and Prejudice days) so much. Tom did a great job in that relatively small role. He is definitely magnificent...

I love Colin Firth too - in his roles and just listening to/watching him in interviews and such. Such wit!

My recording of Tinker Tailor only lasts 48 hrs so I must rewatch Tom's scenes once more tonight... to breathe in such sweet emotion before it gets deleted tomorrow ;)

I placed an order with Amazon tonight. Bought Warrior plus RocknRolla plus a few non-Tom things LOL

I think I should buy Tinker Tailor on blu-ray. It's worthy. ;)

I bought RockNRolla recently on blu-ray but have yet to watch it. Why am I waiting? I'm not sure. LOL!

I've watched our blu-ray of Warrior twice. I should watch it again soon. ;)

Just back upstairs after watching Tom's "tears" scene in Tinker Tailor. Again :) I melted. Again LOL It's like that damn Kleenex commercial of his. Sooooo utterly adorable but heartbreaking all at once!

He's so good. I don't think I've seen all of his Kleenex commercial. LOL

That Kleenex commercial is so sweet. His bit lasts only a few seconds and, as far as I know, that's all of it. In case you've never seen this clip, here is a "Behind the Scenes" for Tom's portion of the commercial.

That last image at the end melts me into a pile of goo. Yet again LOL.

Oh dear.

Yeah, that's all I can say at the moment.

Oh, and I just want to hug him and kiss him and tell him it's going to be okay!!! LOL
