Mark and I got a puppy! We found him at the Espanola animal shelter. We went down there yesterday, but he still had a day left on his stray time (strays are under observation for 7 days in case the owners come back, or they start exhibiting signs of rabies or plague). We went back today, found out that he had become available for adoption, and adopted him. We don't physically have him yet, since New Mexico requires the pound to neuter/spay all the animals that they find homes for. So his surgery is tomorrow morning, and we can go pick him up as of 3:00 tomorrow afternoon!

When we first met him on Saturday we were both like, yeah, this is the dog. Since we had to wait for him to become officially available, we went ahead and got all of the puppy necessities, confident that this was our dog and therefore no one else would take him. There was no actual guarantee that he would still be there, but we could just tell. So we went out and got toys and rawhide bones, food, water bowl, collar, leash, etc. Now all he needs is a tag, a brush, and some wipey cleaners (he's filthy and we can't give him a bath for like, 1-2 weeks because of his surgery). I also discovered these amazing seat covers as Petsmart that I'm going to get to cover my car seats with since I'm bringing him back to Austin with me before we move to Maryland. (I forgot to mention, a puppy was Mark's birthday present to me...yay!!!)

We decided to name him Ranger (as in Lord of the Rings, Aragorn variety of Ranger). He's a German shepherd/lab mix, we think. He's very sweet, energetic, playful, and just ornery enough to be fun. And full of love. Huzzah!
