So I never finished ACL...

I noticed I never finished my ACL post, so I'm going to go ahead and do that now.

Tom Petty: Rain. So he's the last show of the last day of the festival. He's on stage for like, 20 minutes, when it starts raining. Hard. A lot of people end up leaving immediately, but my dad and I, being the hard core concert-goers that we are, stay. The band plays like, 2 songs, and then Tom said, well the rain isn't letting up, so we're going to cover up the equipment and we'll be back out. So they go off for a bit. And they start playing random songs over the P.A. system. And the entire crowd is cheering outrageously throughout this whole period, just waiting for them to come back on. Well it takes 20 minutes to cover the equipment up, by which point it had stopped raining. Then they come back on, and shortly thereafter it starts to rain again, and to the band's extraordinary credit, they aren't protected from the rain, so the band and Tom Petty are all getting soaked out there with us. Which was really groovy of them. But the audience was great. Just screaming every time he finished a song and every time he started a new one. It was an awesome crowd and they did an awesome show. Like, a really fantastic rock show, put on by these guys who've been around for ages. And a lot of the hardcore folks who stuck around for it weren't the kids. I saw almost as many young people leave as the older ones. It was easily one of the best concerts I've ever seen just because the performer/audience rapport was so amazing. And then, Tom played for and extra like, 25-30 minutes over his set. Or maybe it was more. I don't remember. But I do remember that he more than made up for the time they had to be offstage to cover the equipment. And they came onstage for an encore. It was amazing.

Other bands I would highly recommend seeing, if you ever get the chance: The Greencards (originally from Austin, now based in like, Tennessee...very cool people, awesome, passionate, laid back show), Van Morrison (awesome show, especially considering that he's been releasing shit since the early 60s), String Cheese Incident (be prepared to do the crazy hippie dance...you can't listen to their music and resist the crazy, pointless dancing that occurs...also a very cool show).

So yeah. Again, ACL, experience to remember.
