Well whoopdy-friggin'-doo. Southern California is on fire. Again. Whatever. It's not like any one should be surprised. There calling this the worst fire since...well, the last big fire three years ago. Yes it is almost that bad. At least here in San Diego. I have had all the usual phone calls from back east. they all follow the same basic formula:
Them: "Are you okay? I heard there is a big fire."
Me: "It"s nowhere near me."
Them: "Are you going to be evacuated?"
Me: "It"s nowhere near me. Those are completely different areas."
Them: "..."
Me: "San Diego is in San Diego county. I live in the heart of the city a couple of miles from downtown. The fires are out in the 'burbs."
Seriously, every phone call from my family back east has started this way. With me explaining the not so subtle difference between city and county.
Oh well, having lived through California's fire season before this all leaves me underwhelmed. i feel bad for the people who have lost homes and what not, but I'm not in a danger and not likely to be any time soon.
