Picture Day
She wakes up in time
To face her hell of a day
But first think about makeup, not aspirations
She has to live up to everyone else's expectations.
At school it's always the same
Smile at the friends, hope they don't notice
The pain in that smile, the lies
The defeated look in the depths of her eyes.
Smile for the camera
A natural beauty she always was
This picture will look good, he says with pride
(Because it won't show what's on the inside)
She can't get out, she's trapped
By her reputation to all
By her friends who don't understand
By her parents who've had her life planned.
The bell rings, the books slam
A mad rush for the door
It's Friday night, what are you going to do?
Her friends all ask, but they already knew.
Of course she was going
To the most popular party
Everyone loved to have her around
Just because of her accepted renown
No one knows these feelings she has
These insecurities
Leading her to whatever ends;
She walks home alone surrounded by friends.
