Katie Finneran won a Tony as featured actress in a musical
in the revival of Promises, Promises -
and she gave a tearful acceptance speech in which she directly addressed
all of the “kids at home watching,” saying that
she once watched the ceremony on television when she was a kid.
I can't find much more than the above online
but she said it beautifully - something about following your dream
is a perfect passport to the path of life, leading to gifts from the perfect teachers
and ending up with a heartfelt tribute to her fiancé, actor Darren Goldstein.
(I just wanted to editorialize here - I would love to see at least five of these shows -
I throroughly value and support the theater -
but who has five hundred dollars to throw at the stage?)
And Sean Hayes (who I really have grown to like over the years but never got with initially)
was great as Spider-Man singing down the aisle - unable to be understood due to the mask -
really sending up the mega-musical Julie Taymor, Bono and the Edge have been on and off again
in getting made.
