American Cancer Society Relay for Life

May 21, 2006 23:50

Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of the American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team keeps at least one team member on the track at all times.

Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. -taken from www.cancer.org

I am proud to be participating in the Relay for life for the sixth straight year on June 10th & 11th!

The Relay For Life of Skagit County is a 20-hour event that is held at the Burlington-Edison High School track (around the football field). It starts at 3:00 pm and ends at 11:00 am.

Please click here to visit my Relay for Life page to make a donation to the American Cancer Society

You can also mail cash, check or money order to me (email me for my address if you don’t already have it!) And all donations are tax deductible (just let me know if you want a receipt!).

Thank you for your support!!!

The 2005 United We Stride team and family

The Relay starts with the first lap being walked by all of the survivors who are there. Everyone you see in a purple shirt is a cancer survivor.

Team members walking on the track during the day.

Our youngest team member sells lemonade to help raise money.

When we aren’t walking, we rest in our tent.

Walking at night.

At 10 PM all the Luminaria’s around the track are lit, for a minimum $5 donation you can purchase a luminaria in honor of or in memory of a loved one. It’s a very emotional time, walking around the track with just the candle light, and seeing all the names written on the bags.

Team spirit.
